Kristol should know that people like Mike Pence built America, built over the course of a couple of hundred years. They also fought and died for her. It is their America. They are just kind enough to let Kristol live here anyway.

It really comes down to the identification label of ‘intellectual and elite’. Trump absolutely doesn’t fit the label. This is the same reason why the anti-Trump problem survives within Europe today (especially the UK).
The reality here is that we may reach eight full years of Trumpism, then find that another Trump-like character emerges without the ‘intellectual and elite’ label for a second eight-year period.

Bill Kristol is the epitome of what “conservatism” became after January of 1989. It actually started well before that, with Bill Buckley welcoming the neoconservatives into the movement; that was a move to bring their intellectual weight to bear against communism. That worked pretty well, but once the Berlin Wall fell, we were stuck with the neocons. They inserted themselves into positions of power. It didn’t happen all at once, but it did happen.
For Bill Kristol, the United States is a really big strip mall and a really powerful military that can undertake missions in the Middle East that he thinks will benefit Israel (debatable). That’s it. Not a nation with a people. We are just a big social experiment to serve his interests. Money and war in the Middle East. Lower capital gains taxes and wars halfway across the world that serve no U.S. interests, pay lip service to abortion and gun control concerns. That’s “conservatism” as it evolved after Reagan. That’s Bill Kristol and a lot of others. Thank GOD Trump has helped to flush so many of them out: Bill Kristol, John Podhoretz, David Brooks, David Frum, etc ...
