President Trump suggested Democrats have given up any defense of the Second Amendment and pledged that he will not allow Americans gun rights to be swept away on the slippery slope of gun control. Trump made the comments while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday.
He said, We have very, very strong background checks right now. But we have, sort of, missing areas and areas that dont complete the whole circle. And were looking at different things.
He added, And I have to tell you that it is a mental problem. And Ive said it a hundred times: Its not the gun that pulls the trigger; its the person that pulls the trigger. These are sick people, and it is also that kind of a problem.
Trump was then asked point blank if he wanted to see Senate passage of gun control bills passed in the Democrat-controlled House. He responded:
Well, Im not going to get into that. But we are in very meaningful discussions with the Democrats. And I think the Republicans are very unified. We are very strong on our Second Amendment. The Democrats are not strong at all on the Second Amendment. I would say theyre weak on the Second Amendment, and we have to be careful of that.

Thank God, this was the one issue that could have cost him re-election.
Indeed.
We will not.
Can we please start replacing the Bush League Republicans who are willing to sacrifice gun rights?
Like Flimsey Grahammnesty.
As if THREE amnesty attempts weren’t enough to get him thrown out of office.
Dont like it? Move to Australia or some such place
Not to mention all of the NeverTrumper, naysayer FReepers who were just boo hooing about Trump giving in to the gun grabbers.
Flimsey Tinkerbelle isn’t going anywhere, alas.
SC’s open primary system insures Democrats’ right to nominate the Republican of their choice.
Run a conservative wearing a D jersey in the primary to keep them in their own lane or provide an alternative to Queen Amnesty.
Maybe they’re not “sick” people, but evil bastards?
The 2nd amendment is not for hunters, not even for self-protection. It is to fight back against a tyrannical government. (ask Hong Kong, or Venezuela)
Both parties accuse each other tyranny and insist the other party is capable of same.
So why would anyone want to forfeit the right to bear arms?
Yeah. Is there anything else President Trump could do for which we would *not* forgive him?
Try to disarm us, and we have to let you go.
One net positive is that, at long last, a spotlight is being thrown on the real problemliberals.
Starting with JFK, libtards, led in large part by the ACLU have been hell bent on keeping severely mentally ill people out of institutions.
Which makes perfect sense, since dems are always having to shake the trees for people crazy enough to vote for them.
After the discovery of Thorazine in 1954, the fantasy was that the most seriously disturbed (schizophrenics) would be manageable as outpatients.
The patently obvious eluded the experts. Only a complete imbecile would expect psychotics to reliably take their meds. This is especially true with the early antipsychotics like Thorazine, which are pretty unpleasant.
Here is an interesting timeline. Note President Reagans positions.
Bingo!
And that is why I went ahead and contributed again...
Zactly...but, he came through...
Not trying to be mean here, but if I had a dollar for every time I've seen you post that phrase, I could buy myself a sweet little rental property or a new truck.
You do realize that when you're that repetitive, others begin scrolling past your posts, don't you? It's true. Folks tend to tune out messages they've heard too often.
Which you should immediately sign over to me.....
:-)
It's an inconvenient fact that is never brought up in the gun debate.
Spineless Republicans are too cowardly to even think those words, let alone say them.
