Missouri police say a man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly showed up to a local Walmart with a loaded rifle and a bulletproof vest.
Police in Springfield, Mo., said nobody was harmed and no shots were fired. The suspect, a white man in his 20s, was detained by an off-duty firefighter until officers arrived on the scene, authorities said.
The man allegedly showed up with a “tactical rifle” and bulletproof vest, the Springfield News-Leader reported.
Springfield Police Lt. Mike Lucas told the outlet that the man, wearing body armor and military-style clothing, was taking videos on his phone and making comments to people while pushing a shopping cart.
Lucas said the suspect then left the store, where the off-duty firefighter held him at gunpoint until police arrived shortly after.
“His intent obviously was to cause chaos here, and he did that,” he said.
Lucas said the suspect had more than 100 rounds of ammo, adding that police are still working to determine his motives, including whether he intended to shoot anyone.
“His intent was not to cause peace or comfort to anybody that was in the business here,” Lucas said. “In fact, he’s lucky he’s alive still, to be honest.”
The incident follows Saturday’s mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, that killed 22 people and injured dozens others.
A separate shooting in Dayton, Ohio, one day later killed nine people and left others wounded.

Unless there is more info that leads to some intent to do harm, this youth is likely well within his rights privileges and immunities under state law. Liberty requires responsibility as we clearly see here.
I routinely see open carry types in local settings- I observe them closely and make eye contact with them if possible. Usually not the most responsible looking folks, but well within their rights as far as anyone can tell.
Me, I prefer to look like a fairly clean cut gray haired middle aged guy in clean clothes with a untucked shirt.... preferring not to telegraph any qualities/capabilities that may be needed in the gravest extreme.
Politics, if this what it was about, are for armchairs and coffee tables, not the street where people can get hurt because of the their fears and anxieties.

Thankfully for most all of us, assumptions have little if any value in jurisprudence. Elsewise, anyone could assume anything about anyone ( if that what we want or what they want?).
Unless this guy actually broke a law by an act, he is innocent of anything. So far, I do not see any violation of MO firearms laws. Assuming he is not a prohibited person at this point.
Not to say the SPD chief ought to take him out back and whoop the living snot out of him anyways for being stupid.
