Joaquin Castro Posts Names, Employers of Trump Supporters

President Donald Trump's reelection campaign has taken issue with a Facebook post from Texas congressman Joaquin Castro that lists the names and employers of Trump donors in San Antonio and accuses the private citizens of "contributing to harmful rhetoric that targets the Hispanic community and so many others."

Castro, twin brother of 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro, posted late Monday night on Facebook that he was "sad to see so many San Antonians on this list of maximum donors to Donald Trump." He specifically called out two companies, including a popular BBQ restaurant, and posted a list of 44 donors, with their full names and employers.

Trump campaign official Tim Murtaugh highlighted the post on Tuesday, calling it a "target list."

"This is Joaquin Castro, Congressman & chair of his brother's campaign," Murtaugh wrote. "Naming private citizens & their employers, targeting them for political views and exercising 1st Amendment rights."

"At the very least [Castro] is inviting harassment of these private citizens," he said. "At worst, he's encouraging violence."

"Should delete & apologize," Murtaugh added. "Castro campaign should disavow."

A request for comment to Julian Castro's presidential campaign was not immediately returned.

The decision by Joaquin Castro comes days after two deadly shootings in the United States, with information indicating that both murderers held radical political beliefs.

Just a few hours before his Facebook post, the congressman appeared on MSNBC to blame Trump for the actions of the man who killed more than 20 in El Paso.

"A lot of the language that the shooter used is eerily similar to language that the president has used to dehumanize and demonize Hispanic immigrants in this country." he said during an interview with Chris Matthews. "So the president has created this deadly climate where people are acting upon the kind of words and language that he has inspired in them."

His Facebook post quickly succeeded, if his goal was to create animosity within the San Antonio community. Many immediately pledged to no longer give business to companies owned by donors to Trump.

"Time to start buying bbq and gas somewhere else!!" wrote one Facebook user. "Boycott all their businesses, hit them where it hurts, their pockets," wrote another.

Campaigns are required to publicly disclose the names and employers of all their donors, which can be found in filings to the Federal Election Commission. It is highly unusual for politicians to use their public platforms, however, to highlight the names of political donors of their opponents.

I just came back from shopping and in listening to talk radio it occured to me that the democrats are all using present tense verbs to slander Preseident Trump.

Trump is fomenting, causing, etc., and I wondered ... what present day act or words are they referring to ?

His attitude about women .... huh?

Do you mean that locker room recording from what? .... 6 or 7 years ago ?

I would like to hear the "conservative" talking heads push for a citation for the present tense accusation.

What has never been fully tested in such cases is that while companies aren’t allowed to violate workers’ constitutional civil rights outright, it has never been fully tested that a company may fire a worker based on political views that his management may find personally objectionable without proof that such speech has cost the company loss or harm or is a proven threat to his co-workers. People like muzzies sue all the time claiming first amendment infringements that companies are ordered to provide accomodations for. Why should your relative’s situation be any different?

Now the pure faith states that a company should be able to hire and fire anyone that they might wish to so your relative should just suck it up like a good conservative...but as it is Libs that are enabling said Muzzies, trannies, and other malcontents, I would certainly back your relative in suing that company for everything he can get. After all after 35 years, who’s to say that it wasn’t age discrimination that wasn’t the real motive in getting rid of him; he could sue on that basis and discovery would be a hoot....”Oh no it wasn’t his age, he was a good employee, he was fired by the CEO for his political views”....yeah that would be great to get them on the public record for that line of justification in addition to having to show proof that your relative had caused some type of financial loss to the company!

Castro did exactly what he is accused of. He posted the names of Trump supporters and their businesses on Twitter as well. I saw the tweet.
...
My point isn’t that I don’t believe the stories...

It’s that

NO ONE EVER IS PUNISHED OR CONVICTED

Repeat after me - there is a difference between IMMIGRANTS and ILLEGALS. Repeated often enough, it may just penetrate this idiot’s cranium but he’s a demon-rat, right - so that’s not going to happen...When oh! when can we start dealing with logical people instead of these illogical so and so’s.....

This is still lower- the rat has a unique ability to figure out new and unusual ways to dive deeper into the sewer. Every time you think they have gone low enough to hit rock bottom they go lower. They truly hate us and want us dead.

The Democrats are ALL ANTI American. They want to destroy this country. They would like nothing more than to burn the Constitution. All Democrat office holders should be impeached for not upholding their duties to preserve and protect this nation.

The Castros are not responsible for the actions of customers who stop patronizing a business or an employer who fires and employee for donating to Trump.

Let me correct that for you.

He may not be LEGALLY responsible for the consequences of his words, (including someone who is injured or killed by a mouth breathing leftist) but most definitely morally responsible.

Something to consider...If someone is hurt or killed, a relative may consider him to be ultimately responsible, and go Old Testament on his @ss.

Being a lefty, I suspect he's not considered the consequences of his actions.

That's why one should never, ever feel sorry for a lefty.

I don’t disagree with you at all. Principles matter. Of course the information is publicly available. Of course they are free to disseminate it. Free to call for boycotts. But the freedom to do something doesn’t equate to wisdom in doing it.

These on the left are going to be the ultimate victims of their own tactics - as always. And it won’t be from the right. They will eat their own.

“Doxxing is not free speech. Congressional aides have been prosecuted and received prison sentences for it.”

The congressional aides hacked a government computer to obtain private information that was not in the public domain. The crimes for which they were convicted were making public restricted personal information, computer fraud, witness tampering and obstruction of justice (this is stated in the article you referenced). Doxxing is a criminal matter if private information is revealed or the information used for doxxing is obtained in an illegal manner.

Joaquin Castro is disseminating publicly available information. In doing so he did not break into government computers, he did not reveal restricted information, he did no commit computer fraud, he did not tamper with witnesses, and he did not obstruct justice. He simply repeated information in the public domain which is his Constitutional right. It would be no different from me attaching a link on my Facebook page to a public police report on the internet about a neighbor I dislike being arrested for drunk driving.

Note that Congressmen and government bureaucrats leak confidential information held by the government everyday to the press. In doing so they are knowingly breaking several laws. How many are tried and convicted? Zero. To illustrate the point, James Comey has admitted in public he passed confidential government information to the press about President Trump he obtained as a result of his employment as head of the FBI. It is very clear from public statements he made his intent was to damage President Trump. Yet Comey today walks free, not afraid at all of being indicted for a federal crime. In fact he continues to enjoy attacking President Trump in public forums.

Some people are more equal than others in the United States today. Even if Castro had obtained the information illegally, he has little reason to lose sleep fearing he will be tried and convicted of a crime.

Doxxing is an illegal act in the U.S. if it’s used to harass or intimidate someone to any extent, according to law firm Brickfield & Donahue. For these purposes, it’s irrelevant if the information is publicly available or not.
