DC's new Catholic archbishop slams Trump for 'diminishing our national life'
LMT ONline ^

The District of Columbia's new Catholic leader - the country's lone black archbishop - on Thursday issued his first public statement since his installation, lambasting President Donald Trump's recent tweets about members of Congress of color as "diminishing our national life." Wilton Gregory, who came to Washington in May, is known through his long, prominent career for being nonconfrontational on hot-button issues in public, but working quietly behind the scenes - a model similar to the man he replaced, Cardinal Donald Wuerl. But on Thursday, Gregory signaled that he wants to use his higher-profile perch in the nation's capital to challenge the use of identity - racial, national origin or otherwise - as a tool of attack.

I don’t think celibacy attracts weak men. They have to be far stronger than I ever could be to keep that vow. I do not believe the problem is priests cannot be married. I believe the problem is declining church attendance overall, thus you have a smaller population to draw from. Many seminaries are awash with homosexuals in their leadership and seminarians who do not embrace or at least tolerate homosexuality are dismissed under the guise that their “lack of tolerance” means they are not pastoral enough to become a priest. Many of the newer priests are coming from Africa and Asia as the Catholic Church makes inroads there. If Europe is to be re-evangelized it will be from clergy from Africa and Asia ... not Ireland. The Church and Christianity in general were brutally repressed by the Communists which I think explains a bit why Poland is one of the few European countries that that is a stalwart to the faith.

All it took was one man, in a position of power, wanting to correct the course of the government so the goverment would again serve the people and not the powerful. And the result is unfolding as the powerful are engaging in a verbal assault, but in doing so are exposing themselves and their corruption. The Leftist virus has spread further and deeper than most people want to acknowledge. It has taken a firm hold of the democrat party, the gop, government agencies, the educational system, the news media, social media, corporations, religious institutions, the entertainment industry, the healthcare industry, etc. President Trump would seem to be facing an insurmountable opposition, except for the support and prayers from likeminded people. And ultimately, this is God’s battle.

Thanks, crusader. You may well be right.

There are many causes of weak leadership and weak priests in the Catholic Church.

I believe the emphasis should be on the message, not how popular is the messenger.

* * *

In America, the Constitution is 232 years old. And in the last 2.5 years, faith in the Constitution has enjoyed a fine revival among We the People.

Yup! I wonder if Gregory was one of “the Seminary Boys” in Chicago who were sent over for indulgent dalliances with the Cardinal . The guys who said “NO” were booted out of Seminary for being unsuitable. The ones who became poodles rose thru the ranks. The Chicago Archdiocese has always been a Pit of Evil.

Agree. The real Commies are outing themselves, due to their insane hatred of Trump. It is good for us that they are unmasking in large numbers, so that we may know the enemy!

This Catholics opinion: He’s entitled to his opinion as an American. His being a priest doesn’t make that opinion any more important, in fact IF he is an illegitimate priest( homosexual, pedophile or vow breaking in any way) his opinion on anything, much less politics, means NOTHING to me. He should worry less about Trump and more about how God is judging the abomination that is the Church.

In my post #54, I said “stop trying to force feed YOUR religion”. I meant that in a generic way, not you personally.

I believe I should have said “stop trying to force feed their religion” in order to be consistent with the first sentence.

Please excuse my improper word choice.

When Trump leaves office in 2014, I wish we Catholics could hire him to save our Church.

I would vote him to have the power of a Super-Cardinal. He would guide the election of a truly pious man to be Pope and then administer the Church to recruit the proper clergy.

And Pope Frankie would obviously be booted out on his soft cushy tushy.

I totally agree. Our President could become Our Pope and bring back Pope Benedict and right Our Church back to the Voice of the Lord once again.

Spot on in fact the writer mentioned the “no abortion only” Catholics lingering that abortion is the only issue that Catholics could have with Democrats when in reality their whole social justice policies could have been taken from a book”How to bring down a nation,”

Who listens to Catholic Bishops anymore? They have been disgraced for covering up the pedophile/pederast scandal in their midst.

However, RCs are not supposed to be like evangelicals, and determine the validity and veracity of church teaching based upon their own judgment of whether this conflates with ancient church teaching (wherein Catholic distinctive are not manifest ). Instead, so much papal teaching states,

'the one duty of the multitude is to allow themselves to be led, and, like a docile flock, to follow the Pastors," "to suffer themselves to be guided and led in all things that touch upon faith or morals by the Holy Church of God through its Supreme Pastor the Roman Pontiff," "of submitting with docility to their judgment," with "no discussions regarding what he orders or demands, or up to what point obedience must go, and in what things he is to be obeyed... not only in person, but with letters and other public documents ;" and 'not limit the field in which he might and must exercise his authority, " for "obedience must not limit itself to matters which touch the faith: its sphere is much more vast: it extends to all matters which the episcopal power embraces," and not set up "some kind of opposition between one Pontiff and another. Those who, faced with two differing directives, reject the present one to hold to the past, are not giving proof of obedience to the authority which has the right and duty to guide them," "Nor must it be thought that what is expounded in Encyclical Letters does not of itself demand consent."
