In January Proctor & Gamble and Gillette decided to run razor ads trashing men and toxic masculinity in a courageous ad campaign.
The company decided the best way to promote their product was to attack their customer base.
The new ad highlighted sexist and bullying white males in the United States.
Of the 43 abusive males in the ad 42 were white. 7 of the hero men out of 8 in the ad were black.
The ad did not do so well. Many users promised to avoid the product.
The ad had 642,000 down votes after its first two days on YouTube.
All that wokeness did not pay off for Gillette and P&G. Gillette lost $8 BILLION in the second quarter.
Reuters reported:
P&G reported a net loss of about $5.24 billion, or $2.12 per share, for the quarter ended June 30, due to an $8 billion non-cash writedown of Gillette. For the same period last year, P&Gs net income was $1.89 billion, or 72 cents per share.
It looks like trashing their consumer base with feminist lecturing was not such a good idea, huh?

Gillett is the New Coke of 2019.
"Gillette razors are designed by transsexuals,
and the hormones attached
will make any man using them more feminine, too."
I go to Walmart and by their Equate brand. Much cheaper and works for me. I just hope that Gillette doesn’t make Equate for Walmart.
How do they compare?
Walmart has its own brand of shavers/blades as well.
Cheaper than Harry’s (also sold at Walmart now) and work for me just fine.
I have settled on Bic
I find them better than equate.
I buy other Equate stuff
It’s right up there with Dick’s sporting goods decision to stop selling those mean black guns, then - as if that weren’t enough - to proclaim that they were going to destroy all of the mean black guns in their inventory.
Same - Harry’s. Their trim blade took some getting used to (actually, all of the blades did), but now I don’t have to feel like I’m worthless just to shave my face.
“When my existing supply expires Im switching to something else.”
On another thread we are discussing safety razor blades. Try Feather brand. They are the best.
You can buy ‘em from Target, Wal-Mart, etc. I don’t like buying something I can’t hold in my hand first.
I live in Cincinnati. I sold all my PG stock a few weeks before the ads...no idea they were coming out, I just thought the stock hit a level I was good with selling...then it went higher...then the stupid ads. I hope they fire the skinny-jeaned-esquire-bearded-fake-masculinity-wussie-boy-or-girl ad team. Cincy PG employees deserve better...I know lots of ChemEes, product managers...this ad team did them no favors...and the dork who approved the ads!
“I switched to Harrys razors after that.”
Me too.
That Gillette ad probably did more for Harry’s, than any of their own ads.
Been a Schick guy for a long time, didn’t even have to throw anything out. But glad they are paying the price.
The only ad campaign that a company should consider is “Our product is better than the competition” if you aren’t saying that, you deserve to go out of business.
Been using barbasol cream all my life.... best stuff out there... now try the razors (mail order only, ebay has them too)
“When my existing supply expires Im switching to something else.”
Yep. Except for Starbucks, which is easily recognized and avoided, I have started reading the fine print on packages to see if the parent company is run by woke @ssholes.
I used mostly Gillette razors from the the time they introduced the Trac II in 1972 until January, 2019. I now use Schick and Bic razors.
Be careful, my friend bought Harry’s at walmart, and there were no blades in the blade container....
