I believe that Fargo, ND would be a great place to put the EPA.

“These highly motivated civil servants feel as if their expertise and dedication to the agency and the public has been undermined and dismissed by the department.”

Well, if they were of that righteous mind and spirit and sacrifice, they would move to the Kansas City area would they not? Place the fate of the globe above their petty lives?

Then head of the congressional funding committee’s district was there and he told VP johnson we are getting the center for our district aren’t we.

I dunno...but I take your word for it.... that or in true Johnson form, he probably strong-armed someone to get it down here. He was good at that....I hated him.......

I recommend the
3 parter on the PBS web site Probably free for 30 days.

This from Wiki the congressman was albert thomas

Following its tour, the team identified MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa as its first choice, based on the fact the Air Force was planning to close down its Strategic Air Command operations there. The Houston Rice University site was second, and the Benicia Ordnance Depot in San Francisco was third. Before a decision could be made, however, the Air Force decided not to close MacDill, omitting it from consideration and moving the Rice University site to first place. Webb informed President Kennedy on September 14 of the decision made by him and deputy administrator Hugh Dryden in two separate memoranda, one reviewing the criteria and procedures, and the other stating: “Our decision is that this laboratory should be located in Houston, Texas, in close association with Rice University and the other educational institutions there and in that region.”

The Executive Office and NASA made advance notifications of the award, and the public announcement of the location followed on September 19, 1961.[9] According to Texas A&M University historian Henry C. Dethloff, “Although the Houston site neatly fit the criteria required for the new center, Texas undoubtedly exerted an enormous political influence on such a decision. Lyndon B. Johnson was Vice President and head of the Space Council, Albert Thomas headed the House Appropriations Committee, Bob Casey and Olin E. Teague were members of the House Committee on Science and Astronautics, and Teague headed the Subcommittee on Manned Space Flight. Finally, Sam Rayburn was Speaker of the House of Representatives.”[10]

A GS13 in DC (step one) would be making 99,172....with a GS12 making 83,398.

In Kansas City (step one), the GS13 would make 89,417 and the GS12 would make 75,195.

It is a fair drop, but let’s be realistic....housing is probably 20-percent cheaper, and I suspect that property taxes/state income taxes would be a less compared against Virginia. But for those up near step seven or eight....it’s a fair drop in income.

Around eight years ago, I witnessed the same problem where a Arlington, VA organization was being directed to move half-way to Baltimore (maybe a 80 mile move). Half of the civilian force didn’t want to move and they spent a year looking for DC agencies that would take them, and I doubt if maybe 3-percent of that group found jobs to stay there in the Arlington area.

I kinda believe that 90-percent of these people will make the decision to move to KC because they just don’t believe they can find alternate jobs to stay. They will arrive in KC and be bitter toward management and the local area for years (until they retire).

If 0bama-lama-ding-dong had done this, the news would be how great he is to bring jobs to Kansas City. But “Big Orange” did it, so it has to be a bad thing all around.

“They’re just lefties that do not want to leave the DC area.“

They must be just ill at the concept of mingling with the common folk, with God & guns types, with actual practicing Christians. Oh, oh, oh.

As President Eisenhower said years ago, “It’s hard to manage farming, when your plow is a pencil, and you’re 1000 miles from a corn field.”
