Britains government has told Washington that leaks of memos in which the UK ambassador described U.S. President Donald Trumps administration as dysfunctional were a matter of regret, the Prime Minister Theresa Mays spokesman said on Monday.
The memos from Kim Darroch, the ambassador to Washington, were leaked to a Sunday newspaper, annoying U.S. President Donald Trump and triggering demands on the British side to find out who had disclosed them.
Contact has been made with the Trump administration setting out our view that we believe the leak in unacceptable. It is, of course, a matter of regret that this has happened, Mays spokesman told reporters.

Its not the point. The ambassador can say whatever he likes. After all, it was never for public consumption. HMG don’t have to accept or believe his comments, but he is there as their “inside man” and they really have to back him up. The fault lies with whoever has leaked these messages. That has several affects. Firstly obviously its very embarrassing for the Ambassador and HMG; but secondly if ambassadors get the idea that they cannot speak freely because their comments will get leaked, they are not going to express themselves freely, particularly if the precedent is established of HMG throwing them under the bus.
I think personally his position is now untenable, but because Trump tweeted his displeasure to all and sundry, they can’t recall him. My guess is that he will be “asked” to resign. Apparently he was due to retire at the end of the year anyway.
That’s silly. And its untrue. None of the countries you mentioned HAD to back the US in Desert Storm.
They most certainly did not. Whoever did it should be up on a treason charge. Unless of course it was the Russians.
No thats not true. They did say they didnt agree with the Ambassador’s comments. But they can’t disavow them or it will look subservient.
