There are no statute of limitations on a federal sex crime with a minor.

It is one of the exceptions in federal code.

Then there’s the problem of the statute of limitations, which is five years for Federal crimes. How are they going to get around that?

No Federal limitations for sex crimes against children.

18 U.S. Code § 3299. Child abduction and sex offenses

18 U.S. Code CHAPTER 109A— SEXUAL ABUSE

18 U.S. Code CHAPTER 110— SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND OTHER ABUSE OF CHILDREN

18 U.S. Code CHAPTER 117— TRANSPORTATION FOR ILLEGAL SEXUAL ACTIVITY AND RELATED CRIMES

18 U.S. Code § 1591. Sex trafficking of children or by force, fraud, or coercion

Oh, I know that trafficking happens. I applaud that Trump has cracked down on it. I meant going after the pizza gate stuff specifically. Going after it in a methodical and legal manner is great. It clears the “noise.”

If those guys (pizza gate) are involved, that’s all the better.

As it relates to double jeopardy, today's word of the day is "dual sovereignty":

Is it Double Jeopardy to Charge a Crime at both the State and Federal Level?

"While it is true that the state cannot retry a person for murder (for example), once he or she has been found not guilty by a jury, double jeopardy does not mean that the federal government is forbidden from bringing its own murder prosecution provided the person violated both state and the federal laws."

With respect to Statute of Limitations issues:

Statute of Limitation in Federal Criminal Cases: An Overview

Page 4, Note 36...

“Notwithstanding any other law, an indictment may be found or an information instituted at any time without limitation for any offense under Section 1201 [kidnaping] involving a minor victim, and for any felony under Chapter 109A [sexual abuse], 110 [child pornography] (except for Section 2257 and 2257A), or 117 [interstate or foreign travel for unlawful sexual purposes], or Section 1591 [sex trafficking of an adult by force or fraud or of a child].” 18 U.S.C.

Has he switched sides?

IMO, almost certainly not.

David Boies or his firm has for decades been engaged by the Clintons, Gore, both Bidens and several liberal Democrat members of Congress to name just a few, in addition to 90% of his political contributions to Dems.

Boise may be representing two legitimate clients here but it appears likely he is serving as a participant in a much larger effort.

As flaglady46 points out the real target is not Epstein but Trump. The last time Epstein was sent to jail he got a private cell block, weekends only and never missed an hour of his hedge fund work. Double jeopardy may not apply here; but, in any event, every effort will made to compromise Trump's political position.

These people will, in essence, stage a production designed to sway the necessary R votes for an impeachment effort.

Epstein is a (I won't say the) Rosetta Stone that can be used to to take down a huge part of the Deep State. Unfortunately, there is no way to play this as a Democrat vs. Republican issue - both parties are going to take big hits if Epstein tells everything he knows in court.

As for those worried this is a backhanded attack on Trump, I don't think so. It is a Federal prosecution under Barr's control. I instead expect the Clintons might be looking into fleeing the country about now. :)

Hmmmmm. I bet the IRS would regard forgiveness on a $100,000.00 loan as a taxable event equivalent to $100,000.00 worth of income...

Ultimately is isn't a Democrat vs. Republican issue, it's targeting the type of people who, regardless of political label, gravitate inevitably to the Deep State.

People who get their kicks imposing their brutal will on unwilling, defenseless victims.

Actually, the cops and FBI were pissed off that Epstein got off so easy.

Mueller was the guy who ordered the U.S. Attorney to make the deal.

But there is a statute of limitations for not filing a tax return; just ask Tim Geitner.

This assume a person is required to file in the first place.

Merely not filling is different than filing a deliberately falsified return with the intent of defrauding the IRS.

There may be dual sovereignty here but it looks like the charge is Federal and the original plea deal was Federal. Also NY state had a double jeopardy prevention statute that, if I remember correctly, was recently repealed, specifically to get at PDJT and his associates, which raises the ex post facto and bill of attainder issues.

So, on the Federal side, how does the Gov. get away with overturning Epstein’s original plea deal?

Ahhhh, this is the old "the FBI is full of decent men and women" schtick. I have seen no evidence that this is true. As far as I can see, they are all scum and they all support Mueller's dirty dealings. Show me evidence that this is not true.

If your point is that the claims by Hannity, and some others, that most FBI agents are hard working and honest is simply not true; you will get no argument from me.

Based on personal experience, I know most FBI agents are corrupt and cover up corruption of other government officials even when the evidence is overwhelming.

Epstein wasn’t tried on all the charges and there were lots of victims that were not part of the plea deal.

Because he was not charged for crimes against all the victims and his plea deal was based on fraud upon the court, it is not double jeopardy.
