Five Global Evidences for a Young Earth
BY JAKE HEBERT, PH.D. * | FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 2019
The evolutionary story requires millions and billions of years, and most people assume that scientific dating has conclusively proved such ages. However, most dating methods yield age estimates that are much too young for the evolutionary story, even given uniformitarian assumptions.1 These include estimates that look at the earth as a whole. Such estimates should be more reliable because rates averaged over the entire earth should be less subject to local uncertainties.
In this article, we examine five global processes that strongly indicate a young earth.

Around 1650, Archbishop James Ussher of the Church of Ireland figured out the exact time of the earth’s creation: October 24, 4004 BC at 9:00 AM—and we must assume it was Pacific Daylight Time.
On October 24, 1972, my geology class at Occidental College met at 9:00 AM. As instruction was about to begin, students from the Geology Department barged in and threw a surprise party to celebrate the creation of the earth.
“What’s your degree in? Dentistry?”
Even by ICR standards, this is some weak stuff.
I follow Dr. Micheal Heiser and he’s in the court that it could have been global and it could have been local. That is, he says the bible isn’t all that clear on it, and believers had better be careful about which hill they choose to die on.
I have a belief about it, but I’m willing to change that belief if more information presents itself.
Would the sun, moon and stars be included in each of these paintings? Genesis states that the 4th day is when they were created. Which begs the question: Sun up- sun down. That would be how a day is measured. That wasn’t created till the 4th “day” Perhaps “day” is just a period of time, not 24 hrs. All will be revealed when we pass from this world.
Which is exactly the goal.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who has spotted this.
We are dealing with very, VERY old text that has been modified many times over the millennia. The general concept may have survived, but many things changed. It would be like a guy today taking a manuscript from 1950 about China and changing Peking to Beijing. That sort of thing really happened regarding many OT manuscripts.
When the bible says, “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”, that could have been billions of years ago, but the six days of OUR age’s creation began about 6,000 years ago. And when God said “let there be light”, is that because he created the sun on that day, or he “pulled back a curtain” on that day?
I have a tag line at a christian site where I ask, “Did the rooster crow once, or did the rooster crow twice?” The bible says both. So which is correct? The correct answer is that it only took until the next morning for Peter to deny Christ three times. The number of rooster crows is irrelevant.
And a lot of the numbers in the Pentateuch are gross exaggerations because, to be frank, that is the way such books of the day were written. The readers of the day understood those numbers in a different way than we do. And here’s the kicker. Those books were written TO them, not us. We simply use it for historical reference to better understand the personality of God. It was written for us to see, but we don’t have the full cultural understanding of the context of the books that they had.
It would be like saying, in a book today, that a guy was “bad”, and someone thousands of years from now thinking the writer meant the guy was a bad person. But in the modern vernacular it can mean the exact opposite.
The point is that God in fact did create everything and he is all powerful. We can trust him.
The sun, moon and stars were created, whenever, Genesis 1:1 took place. The Bible does not say how long ago this was. Genesis 1:2 describe the Katabolé καταβολή (Overthrow) of Lucifer. Christ and Paul both point to this action, and it got translated 'before the foundation of the world'.
Example: Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Ezekiel 28:12-19 and Isaiah 14:12 -32 describe the why of Genesis 1:2. The casting down, overthrow of Lucifer.
Isaiah 45:18-19 States God Himself That formed the earth and made it; He hath established it, He created it NOT in vain, He formed it to be inhabited: "I am the LORD; and there is none else.
I do know some fellow believers who go to the other extreme and say that literally everything in the Bible should have to be explained naturally. So if they can't perceive how the Israelites could cross the Sea of Reeds (i.e. it was really low as in ankle deep at the time) then it didn't happen. But the Bible text makes it clear that it was a miracle of God, which means we shouldn't be expected to explain everything naturally -- or it wouldn't be a miracle.
So if the Bible describes it in very miraculous ways, then accept it exactly as written even if doing so demands it happen only by a miracle of God. But if the Bible describes it vaguely (as Genesis 1 is to us in the 21st century), be careful how we much detail we demand from others before we call them heretics.
In all seriousness, you really should check out the Naked Bible Podcast by Michael Heiser. He wrote an amazing book called “Unseen Realm” about stuff many of us were “not allowed to read” regarding history and the bible. It’s very enlightening.
He has a website DrMSH.com.
The podcast is up to over 270 episodes. I started at the beginning about 8 months ago and am just about caught up.
Just a teaser: He points out that, though it is not canonical, 1 Enoch is actually quoted in the NT. And it really goes into a detailed explanation of Genesis 6:4, and suddenly all sorts of confusing stuff in the bible falls into place.
“ICR never fails to make Christians look stupid.”
You ever wonder if this is their intention?
Makes my head spin. But I trust Him.

That’s young-earthers for ya. Strain out a gnat and swallow a camel. Destroying the faith of millions by demanding that the clear evidence of God’s own works— the light from distant galaxies— be denied. They would make the I AM into a deceiver, which He is NOT.
Some of us Christians don’t hold with ICR’s nonsense. Some of us are confident in examining the evidence. Our God is plenty “big” enough and patient for billions of years.

The ICR’s research into the shortcomings of archaeological dating alone is worth the price of admission. Google Gunnar Heinsohn and Immanuel Velikovsky’s “Ages in Chaos”

I read Enoch a long time ago after I read through the Bible a few times and decided to read non-canon books like the apocrypha books/chapters, Enoch, and some 1st century writings many early churches read. To be honest, it was a while ago and a lot of those are kinda mashed together in my brain. But if memory serves me correctly Enoch details angels and demons and includes descriptions of angels going through the fall. And I remember Jude referencing the prophet Enoch (not necessarily the book) about a future thousands of saints, I'd have to research if it's in the book.
Like you I'm cool with using Book of Enoch and others for help interpreting canon. I don't want to make it canon, but help understand canon.
