Apple Inc. AAPL -0.91% is manufacturing its new Mac Pro computer in China, according to people familiar with its plans, shifting abroad production of what had been its only major device assembled in the U.S. as trade tensions escalate between the Trump administration and Beijing.
The tech giant has tapped Taiwanese contractor Quanta Computer Inc. to manufacture the $6,000 desktop computer and is ramping up production at a factory near Shanghai, the people said. Apple can save on shipping costs for components given the proximity of many of its suppliers to Shanghai, rather than having to supply a factory in the U.S.
While the Mac Pro isnt one of Apples higher-volume products, the decision on where to make it carries outsize significance. Apples reliance on factories in China to manufacture its products has been an issue for the company, especially under President Trump, who has pressured Apple and other companies to make more in the U.S.

“Nonsense, it will turn the new computer into a great keystroke logger for Beijing.”
Chinese produced Apple’s will have a backdoor the size of Mayor Pete’s...uh, never mind.
I am not sure why everyone is taking this as something Apple “wanted” or “chose” to do.
There can’t be any real justification for this decision at this time other than arm-twisting by stinking China. China has Apple by the short-hairs with the production they already control.
This is how China operates. They have to have it all. It seems to escape everyone that China is not correcting its transgressions, but is, instead, becoming increasingly belligerent.
Well, poor little Apple.
Apple...the new Huawei.
The $6000 price tag is the loss leader. Most will cost $15k to $30k.
If you wan’t Apple’s monitor add $6000 per unit up to 8 units.
These computers were designed for serious cranking. There won’t be a million sold. Probably 50k to 100k per year tops if that.
Since they let their Mac Pro’s go stale, there may be a lot sold up front but sales will probably fall flat in 2-3 years. Kind of like Tesla Demand.
$6000 my ass
As for “Thimmy the Homo”, no doubt he partners in Commie China for the cost savings and their shared hatred of America.
In addition, knowing Commie China steals their IP and can force Apple to embed spyware, Apple sold its soul to the devil.
A huge “NO THANKS” to anything Apple and its indoctrinated fanbois.
... Just Apple hating on your part
The things we hate control us,
The things we desire cause our suffering
The Buddhists are right on this
Well, as long as you agree with my analysis.
I am not looking for sympathy for Apple. I don’t particularly “like” Apple, or feel sorry for them if outsourcing to China is causing them pain.
The current situation with China, a “trade war” with talks of tariffs and US bans of Chinese “manufacturers” and products, just sounds like a stupid time to shift MORE production to China. There is more behind this than what is being told.
Just my opinion, but this will be a low production productno where close to the Mac Books or iPhones.
I’m a exclusize Mac user and the Mac community are in meltdown mose over the price, so not many users of these devices at all.
dude, its not that simple.
it’s the underlying infrastructure of ideas and patents.
he computer, yes is a machine that can be readily replicated; it’s the software and other patents that are the heart of it.
Add in the fact that Apple’s design Chief quit yesterday then this announcement, it would be a good time to be a fly on the wall at Apple HQ.
There is one person trying to correct those transgressions. I don’t know how he keeps it up.
Made in China ,BLAH
You proved my point once again.
LOL!
Still no substance in your replies.
Just wonderin’....
Are you a supporter of “Thimmy” Cook, the pervert, and his statement that “homosexuals are God’s special people”?
I’ll never buy another apple product!
