The Democratic-controlled House on Thursday approved a bipartisan $4.6 billion Senate-drafted measure to care for migrant refugees detained at the southern border after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi backed off a competing proposal opposed by the President Trump.
The 305-102 vote capped a Washington skirmish in which staunch House liberals came out on the losing end in a battle with Trump, the GOP-controlled Senate and Democratic moderates.
The legislation would ease a cash crunch at federal agencies that care for migrants who have flocked over the border in huge numbers seeking asylum since Trump took office.
Final action came after Pelosi abandoned a plan to require more stringent care requirements for detained migrant families and children, many of whom have been held in harsh, overcrowded conditions.
House progressives were furious with Pelosi for caving to the GOP, but any bill that included their own demands stood little chance of becoming law, with Trump threatening a veto and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell saying it would never get through the upper chamber.

But the $$ is still going towards making conditions better for people I don’t give a #### about, no?
Not as much? Is that the victory?
Not being sarcastic. Just wondering.
In my opinion, Nancy is very much driven by the recognition and stature involved with being speaker, and going against those in her party who threaten her stature will have a significant role in determining the political decisions she makes.
My thinking is that they are all going to eventually have to cave to us. I mean Trump.
They are owned by the cartel or whatever major corrupt entity running this show and Trump is just going to force them to squirm out of it
Its what we hired him to do. Dont doubt him.
Won’t this just encourage the free sh*t hordes to continue the invasion? I realize it’s all about optics, but ultimately it doesn’t address the real problem - the invasion.
So now that they’ve all gone home for a nice break (the politicians), can the president carry on with his deportation plan?
That old devil time is catching up on Nancy. She’ll be 80 in March. The old broad is on borrowed time.
Yeah, our savior border hawk.
Re: Its what we hired him to do. Dont doubt him [Trump].
“Catch and Release” is not what I hired him to do.
Almost none of these people are going to be deported.
Only 3% of illegal immigrants are actually deported each year.
Trump has the Executive authority to cut immigration to ZERO - but he will never do it.
Why wont he stop the invasion on an executive order?
The votes in the Senate and House are a perfect illustration of how far on the wrong side of this issue Pelosi and Schumer are. This is no more than folding a bad hand. They will quickly move to the next outrage. G20 will likely give them something to resist.
No, there’s no victory. Not for those who expected a difference from as far back as 2017.
Getting more money to the guys on the border (without strings) is GOOD, regardless of whether we get everything we want.
Right now, they’re diverting resources to try to address the border situation, and that’s affecting Americans who want to travel in several ways. Now, at least, those people can leave the border and get back to their day jobs.
She did this to get money for the people in the detention centers. Don’t think for a moment she won’t get her revenge somewhere down the line.
Don't be silly of course there is a difference, just not the difference we wanted.
He’s bound by law to do certain things with detainees and asylum seekers. He’s not a king.
The money will be used to clear up the backlog and then the centers can be used to deport instead of processing.
Wow, two entire years. You would have been surrendering to the Germans and Japs by 1943.
Yea, like this was going to be a quick fix with the entire Establishment against him. Just go vote Democrat and stop pretending to be pro-Trump.
A simple fact that these trolls can’t grasp.
