House Speaker Nancy Pelosi abruptly backed down Thursday from her push to include restrictions on immigration enforcement in a must-pass border funding bill, moving instead to bring a bipartisan Senate version for a vote following intense pressure from Republicans and moderates in her own party.
At stake is a critical $4.5 billion bill to combat the humanitarian crisis at the southern border, which lawmakers want to pass before Congress leaves for the July 4 recess. The Senate already approved its bill 84-8 on Wednesday, after rejecting an earlier House version.
But until Thursday afternoon, the left-wing faction of the Democratic caucus was still driving an effort to insert restrictions on enforcement back into the Senate bill before they would consider it. With the clock ticking, Pelosi reversed course.

“In order to get resources to the children fastest, we will reluctantly pass the Senate bill. As we pass the Senate bill, we will do so with a Battle Cry as to how we go forward to protect children in a way that truly honors their dignity and worth,” she wrote in a letter to colleagues.
Measures sought by liberal members included those to ensure the health and safety of those in custody, limit the amount of time unaccompanied minors can spend at an influx shelter to 90 days, and reduce funding for ICE by $81 million.
“In addition to aid, Congress must close the catastrophic loopholes that are driving the Crisis,” Trump tweeted Wednesday. “We must end incentives for Smuggling Children, Trafficking Women, and Selling Drugs.”

I have to agree with that unless Trump goes on to reallocate over half that money to wall construction and the other half to deportations.

When Cocaine Mitch is motivated to pass a bill, he can overcome obstruction in the House. The Senate could increase funds for border barriers, ICE, etc. and force the House to pass the Senate bill or look like obstructionists. Unfortunately, Cocaine Mitch and the majority of the GOP in the Senate doesn’t want increased border security and is willing to stick it to the President on immigration issues.

Meanwhile we are Trillions in debt and wind up having our tax dollars allocated to
those who are here illegally. MSM may spin it they have asylum, but reality is they aren’t a citizen and there are more needy people in the US - vets/elderly who could
benefit from this.
Here’s an idea. Based on tax returns, why not give that money to those living on SS alone... Oh, but of course their shelf life as a voter is short so better to get some fresh illegals who can vote a lifetime D.

President Trump gave them two weeks before he would start more aggressive deportation efforts. Doesn’t look like they are going to meet his deadline.
I hope, but am very doubtful, that a comprehensive immigration measure can be completed any time soon. However, if hundreds of thousands start being sent back to their countries of origin, it just might be feasible.
Honestly, this happening might be more important than getting full funding for the wall before the 2020 election anyway. We are not going to completely seal the border by then, but we are going to have to deal with illegals voting.
