Joe Biden's record on women's issues could take center stage at the Democratic debate this week

Joe Biden could face some uncomfortable questions about his record on women this week at the first Democratic presidential debates.

The Democratic field has so far been relatively amicable. But Biden could be pressed about allegations that he inappropriately touched women in ways that made them feel uncomfortable and about how he handled Anita Hill's testimony during Justice Clarence Thomas' confirmation hearings. Another issue could be Biden's previous support for the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal funding for most abortions.

Shortly before announcing his candidacy, Biden released a video pledging to be "more mindful and respectful" after a number of women accused him of touching them in ways that made them feel uncomfortable.

She said younger women may see Biden's actions as inappropriate in ways that older women do not.

I can’t send a link because it is a small part of a longer video I watched who the hell knows where and who the hell knows when.

It was a collage of Biden gropes :) But this one wasn’t uncomfortable or funny in a crazy uncle joe kind of way.

This was child molestation.

Let us not forget his sexual assault on a sexual assault victim at a SEXUAL ASSAULT CONFERENCE.

Some victims claim it’s *no big deal*.

Trauma and abuse recovery is my area of expertise. It is very typical for sexual abuse victims to minimize the abuse. Thus, Biden survivors’ comments should be taken in context.

That’s about as likely as little green men landing in your back yard. They’re too afraid to broach the subject. Besides, they have their own skeletons they don’t want out.

You are describing criminal behavior that should be prosecuted. One event such as this can have a profound impact on a child. It can be severely traumatic. How it will manifest is a function of a number of variables. One factor that makes this incident potentially exceptionally damaging is the high position of trust held by the perp.

It really screws with a child’s head when something is done to her that feels creepy and wrong; something that she does not understand intellectually; and that something is done to her by someone that the adults have signaled she is supposed to admire and trust.

That poor child’s parents should be grabbed by the scruffs and shaken until their teeth fall out for not immediately contacting the police.

There are steps that the adults can take to help ameliorate some of the trauma. Step one is to believe the child and take her seriously. Next is to take concrete action, eg call the police, take her to therapy; anything that shows serious activity on her behalf.

I don’t even want to have to tell you the ways in which just one traumatic event like this can affect a girl during adolescence and adulthood.

Bidens’ numerous sexual assaults on women should also be prosecuted.

So, he has held one pro-woman position in his career. Can he make up for it by jumping on the bandwagon to destroy women's sports? Or is his propensity to grope women enough to carry the day with woman-exploiting leftists?

Senator Biden was the first questioner. Instead of the softball questions he’d promised to ask, he threw a beanball straight at my head, quoting from a speech I’d given four years earlier at the Pacific Legal Foundation and challenging me to defend what I’d said. ”I find attractive the arguments of scholars such as Stephen Macedo, who defend an activist Supreme Court that would strike down laws restricting property rights.” That caught me off guard, and I had no recollection of making so atypical a statement, which shook me up even more. “Now, it would seem to me what you were talking about,” Senator Biden went on to say, “is you find it attractive the fact that they are activists and they would like to strike down existing laws that impact on restricting the use of property rights, because you know, that is what they write about.”

Since I didn’t remember making the statement in the first place, I didn’t know how to respond to it. All I could say in reply was that “it has been some time since I have read Professor Macedo … But I don’t believe that in my writings I have indicated that we should have an activist Supreme Court.” It was, I knew, a weak answer. Fortunately, though, the young lawyers who had helped prepare me for the hearing had loaded all of my speeches into a computer and at the first break in the proceedings they looked this one up. The senator, they found, had wrenched my words out of context. I looked at the text and saw that the passage he’d read out loud had been immediately followed by two other sentences: “But the libertarian argument overlooks the place of the Supreme Court in a scheme of separation of powers. One does not strengthen self-government and the rule of law by having the non-democratic branch of the government make policy.” The point I’d been making was the opposite of the one that Senator Biden claimed I had made.

glad that you’re doing that important work, and since you are here, assuming you are also sane....which is a major plus.

trauma and abuse are so real, and in need of intelligent, compassionate treatment. but there’s also an agenda that hovers around the margins of all this by activists, and that is sickening. there’s also - again on the margins - the suppression of abuse that some activists (right and left) feel (I guess?) entitled to....the point being, this is an incredibly important field, but one with some mines in it.

it behooves ALL of us to try to think and listen intelligently, compassionately, and yes, critically (false accusations are also real). and for those in the front lines of the field, like you, we commend you and say keep up the good work!
