A large primary field may fragment the vote, making it unlikely that a candidate could win a majority and avoid a runoff and making it easier for Moore to advance to a runoff with only the support of his base.
The point is that Moore does have a path — especially a path to a primary runoff if there’s a crowded GOP field. And if he does get there, he would be only one step away from a rematch with Jones.
Moore would still have a decent chance of winning a general election in conservative Alabama, and that is surely a big part of why he’s running again.

Session is a sure win, if he gets in... Moore? He has a solid loyal base, no doubt, but that didn’t get him over the finish line last time, and doubtful he would do any better second time around.
Only reason Jones won, was because Moore, like it or not, is divisive, even in heavily conservative Alabama. A lot of folks who had shown up for Sessions, many times, didn’t show up for Moore.
But he’s stalks young women. I mean, I didn’t buy that last time around and still don’t. I defended him vehemently as a victim of a smear job. And ole Roy rewarded me by half-heartedly defending himself during an interview on a friendly conservative show.
Q: Is it true you stalked younger women when you were working as a DA?
A: I don’t recall it that way.
Q: One woman says you would come into the restaurant she was waitressing in and ask her out on dates and follow her out of the restaurant.
A: Not that I can recall.
Q: They are saying that you used to go after underage women and approach them in an inappropriate way, is that true?

And for those saying that we are in a “post Kavanaugh” world, let us contrast the two responses.

1. USSC,
2. Federal Judges.
Nothing & I mean nothing else matters. Whoever gets the seat can go & piddle in the corner as long as he votes right on those two things.

When Moore had finished service and education and was ready to marry he courted, two young women, with the consent of their parents. They were over the age of consent and not one of them nor their parents said he had behaved inappropriately.

I have kept on top of every bit of this story, and there is absolutely no proof out there that Roy Moore "trolled for little girls", and were I he, and you said such a thing to me, you would be picking your teeth up off of the floor.
It is a vile media smear, and decent people ought to know better than to repeat it.
The only accuser who claims to have been underage is Leigh Corfman, and her story is so full of holes it does not need any further evidence to refute it. She was a troubled child and a troubled woman, and she has no credibility among any serious people. Deeply involved in drugs, greatly promiscuous, attempted suicide at least once, her trouble's go way beyond any contact she may have ever had with Deputy District attorney Roy Moore.
Court records show she was 16 when her mother tried to force her father to take custody of her (because she was an out of control little hellion) and this is the time period in which she claims she met Roy Moore, so right off the bat we've caught her in a lie. (She claims to have been 14 at the time.)
Do not waste time believing 40 year old made up accusations by Democrat kook women. One would think after seeing them play this same trick against Brett Kavanaugh, no one would believe it anymore.

In this Alabama Senate race, Soros may have contributed money, but the real heavy lifting was done by the Washington Post and the television network propaganda machine.
One of my primary efforts on these discussion threads is to get people to understand how strong of a role the media plays in warping the country's election process.
Very few politicians win their party’s nomination, lose the general election, turn around and win their party’s nomination again, and then win the general election their second time around. Nixon was the rare exception and he waited out an election cycle before running again. (Plus things did not turn out too well for Nixon after he finally won.)
OTOH, many successful politicians have lost their first race for their party’s nomination, watched the candidate who beat them go down in flames in the general election, and then ran for the nomination again, won the nomination, and then won the general election. They win their second run for the nomination in part because voters regret not nominating them the first time around.
Moore convinced Alabama Republicans that he was the best candidate for the general election. He then got trounced in the general election, when nearly any other possible Republican nominee would have won.
Yes Moore was the victim of scurrilous, unfair and defamatory attacks. Those attacks will only get louder if he runs again and he will end up pulling down other Republican candidates on the same ballot.
And everyone knew she was lying, even the U S Senators with a “D” by their name.
You can’t compare a judiciary appointment to an election.
Obviously, enough Republicans believed them though didn’t they. He lost.

Could Moore win - yes, he could but it would be only because he was pulled across the line on Donald Trump's Coattails.
But, he will not win the primary. To make it clearer - every single person in my family that live in Alabama voted for Roy Moore in 2017. 23 people total. Not a SINGLE ONE will vote for Moore in the Republican Primary.
There are just too many good solid Conservatives that are in the field. Why take a chance on a "might" win with Moore, when you have candidates that are SURE wins that will vote just as solidly conservative as Moore.
Look around at all the local Alabama Polling that has been done since the Moore-Jones Debacle. "GENERIC REPUBLICAN" Leads Jones by 15-25 points in every single poll. Roy Moore trails Jones in EVERY SINGLE POLL.
Fair or not, right or not, Moore is Toxic with a Capital T. We here in Alabama will not be stupid enough to let this solid Republican seat fall away again.
