Asians would lose share? That goes against everything I have read on this.
The “asian” category probably includes American Indians and Hawaiians. The Gubermint has all sorts of categories we plebes aren’t aware of. They also consider Middle Easterners as white. I wonder how many of those asian students are here from overseas to study and how many are born here.
Far East Asians are not counted as URMs but southeast and Pacific Islanders are. So the share of East Asians would go up but southeast and Pacific Islanders would go way down.
That sentence stunned me. But then I thought, Asians are suing universities over Affirmative Action. So perhaps those running the study are trying to muddy the waters.
I think that Asians would lose a point because white males are significant comptition
How the survey works is they look at the range of scores that qualify for admission to the elite college and then take the students in the country as a whole who have scores that qualify.
A lot of Asians would get into the elite colleges if only test scores were taken into account. But Asians already apply to and go to those schools. Many White male students with above average scores don't apply to those schools and may not even go to college.
In the methodology of the survey, a lot of White students who don't apply to or attend such schools are "assigned" to them on the basis of their test scores so a lot more of them would attend such schools according to the survey.
In the real world, though, more of those Asians who apply to elite schools would get into their first choice, while White guys who don't apply to such schools probably still wouldn't apply to them.
