Climate change prep will cost $18B (ocean rises faster in N.E. - only 11.57 years left)

BOSTON — Massachusetts will have to spend more than $18 billion to fortify its coastline against rising seas and monster storms fueled by a changing climate, according to a new report.

The report, compiled by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Climate Integrity - a nonprofit that supports states and communities that sue polluters - estimates the state would have to spend that much over the next 20 years to to fortify seawalls and other barriers to defend against erosion, flooding and other impacts of a warming planet.

Nationwide, 22 coastal states and Washington, D.C. will have to spend $400 billion collectively in that period to fend off the impacts of climate change, the report stated.

"As things stand, taxpayers are on the hook for all the costs," Richard Wiles, the group's executive director, said Wednesday during a phone briefing. The group says fossil fuel companies should be on the hook to "help communities adapt to the damage their products cost."

In New England, ocean rising 3 to 4 times faster than global average
I was taught in physics that water seeks its own level.....evidently not....who knew

The science is settled, water does not seek its own level, deal with it.

America cannot afford to pay for the “Rising Seas”, so everyone on the coast must move 100 miles in land. Problem solved.

From 1989: UNITED NATIONS (AP) _ A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.

The Earth worshipers have been claiming the world will end in 10-15 years for decades. And we’re the evil/stupid/blind ones if we don’t believe.

I realize I only have 3 science and engineering degrees. So maybe someone can explain how a free flowing fluid is rising faster in one place compared to another.

Sure, I realize there are tidal forces, wind/current considerations, even local variations in gravity. But what they are talking about is utter nonsense. If the *apparent* rise is faster in one place than another, it is probably due to local relative subsidence of land, not rising seas.

Ocean levels have been rising for over 15,000 years. And they just figured out that if they come up with some crazy story so they can tax people because the Ocean levels are rising.

I’m not entirely sure how this is not yet common knowledge on FR, but this is fact.

Read & disseminate. It contains all the terminology for further Boolean searches. Maybe we can stem the tide of misinformation (pun intended).

“The U.S. East Coast and Great Lakes regions—once on the bulging edges, or forebulge, of those ancient ice layers—are still slowly sinking from forebulge collapse.”

What is glacial isostatic adjustment?
https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/glacial-adjustment.html

Also referred to as “post-glacial rebound”.

Another, albeit while attempting to still hysterically promote rising global sea levels:

https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2019/02/study-of-sea-level-rise-finds-land-sinking-along-east-coast/

There is also the problem of groundwater extraction (aka “human activity”) accelerating the process (but not by raising the oceans, as some hysterical studies assert, case-in-point: https://www.un-igrac.org/news/global-groundwater-depletion-leads-sea-level-rise , but by causing coastal areas to sink): Groundwater-related subsidence.

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/05/01/in-some-coastal-cities-subsidence-now-exceeds-absolute-sea-level-rise-up-to-a-factor-of-ten/

Anyone who thinks GW $$$ is going to go to States to repair coast is a fool.
Its going to go to the UN and they are going to use it as a slush fund for global political gain.

There is a photo out there from 100 years ago on San Diego coast.
The sea level is exactly the same today

I’m still amazed that tens of Billions of Taxpayer money was wasted rebuilding Houses in NOLA that are below Sea Level and only protected by Levees.

Good money after bad.
