President Trump called off a round of deportations slated to begin Sunday, saying he was delaying them for two weeks at the request of Democrats though he said both sides need to use the time to strike a broader deal on stopping new illegal immigrants.
The surprise move came just hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi requested the delay, calling the planned deportations too cruel.
At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border. If not, Deportations start! the president said on Twitter.
Just hours earlier Mr. Trump had said he was committed to the deportations, calling them an important consequence.
When people come into our Country illegally, they will be DEPORTED! hed tweeted.
U.S. Immigration and Customs had sought to make good on that stance with plans to begin searching out and deporting thousands of illegal immigrants whod been ordered removed by a judge, have exhausted their cases, but are defying the orders.

We delayed D-Day....
Does anyone get the sense there is more action on Free Republic then the Drudge Report?
That was intentional. Art of the Deal. He showed them one of his cards.
I hope so cause I want these aliens GONE..the sooner the better..we all know nothing will change, Dems need these people for votes they can give a rats ass about Americans..a Sacramento Officer was murdered a few days ago by an illegal alien and you have the LAPD saying they wont help ICE, disgraceful
True.
There’s action at Drudge?
No not that kind of action.
Nah, he's left that up to posters on this thread.
Wheres AOC?
How come she isnt rushing to the press about this injustice?
Trump wants to liberate these people from the ICE concentration camps but Pelosi wants to keep them LOCKED UP forever!
Exactly....Like I said, how many time have people in here panicked right off the bat only to find out in a few days what President Trump said or did was the right thing...
Is he trying to secure the border and fix immigration? Yes.
Is he being blocked by the left and elements of his own party on immigration? Yes.
Is he being blocked by the courts? Yes.
Is he building the wall? Maybe, but it is not for a lack of effort on his part.
Is he applying pressure to Mexico to stop the flow? Yes.
The fact that Hillary seemingly got another free pass is undeniable. However, running out and arresting her would have been a political nuclear bomb and the FBI and DOJ went after him even prior to him being sworn in so who was going to do it? The Clinton’s record of questionable behavior certainly did not start with Trump’s political aspirations... it was decades old.
I do not think there are enough Trump voters who will stay home this time around because HRC is not in prison to even be measured. That is a myopic idea and it ignores the incredible number of promises he has kept, the unbelievable performance of the US economy under his stewardship, and his brilliant performance on a host of other issues to include foreign policy.
He has earned re-election not just with those who voted for him the first time, but with many who did not - especially among historical democrat constituents like labor, minorities, etc, who increasingly see how much better off they are today than they were only a few years ago. That is the most powerful metric in Presidential elections and always has been.
People have pretty much made up their minds about the Clinton’s and there is little that will change that fact. Her baggage and the poor performance she gave in the last election hurt her - Trump played the politics of it brilliantly. I want nothing more than a full and honest accounting of not only her email crimes, but the foundation.
It may not happen, but the final chapter of HRC has yet to be written so let’s wait and see what the next year brings and revisit it. You and I cannot do anything about it beyond agreeing that it stinks to high heaven, but the political optics of Trump going after her would be as bad as what the state AG in New York is doing to Trump.
President’s do not play those games...
Trump holds all the cards. Mass deportation finishes the Dems.
By the way, your description of the democrats is spot on. I wish the GOP had 1/10th of their grit and determination.
Mass deportations should have happened a long time ago, the fact that you have over 30+ MILLION illegals in this country is a disgrace
Brilliant move by President Trump delaying the deportations. I say this because two weeks means nothing Negotiations mean a great deal of News coverage and more public favorable opinion And the optics would have been terrible!
Think of the Gonzalez mess down in Miami
No way we can win the optic war on this.
Bravo President Trump!
“It would be like telling a murderer on Monday we are going to come pick you up, ya think he is gonna be there waiting at the front door with a suit on saying OK Im here take me in”
Unless you didn’t really know where they were....
Imagine all the traffic they can monitor out of the targeted cities that the announcement just triggered.
I have begun to enjoy not having any idea what Pres. Trump is planning.
Love,
O2
He has given them two weeks. He also gets a massive rally on the 4th. One hour free time to slip in some remarks one way or another. If everyone comes up with a plan he is the hero. If no plan he can wash his hands the blood is on them.
