Alabama Republican Roy Moore has announced he is running for U.S. Senate again in 2020 after failing to win the seat two years ago amid sexual misconduct accusations.

Moore announced his campaign Thursday, seeking an eventual rematch against Democratic Sen. Doug Jones. The announcement upends an election viewed by Republicans as a top priority in 2020 and ignores President Donald Trump's warning that he "cannot win."

Or worse, Matt Gaetz will hop across the state line and declare his candidacy. Personally, I like Gaetz, but when you jump in to take advantage of Alabama’s one-day residency requirement, that would go over like a lead balloon.

Someone told me Mo Brooks has already decided not to run. Hope someone from Alabama can tell me that isn’t true.

Riding a horse for the TV cameras and waving a gun around at a rally got him exactly ZERO votes from people who weren’t going to vote for him already. The guy was a terrible candidate who ran an amateurish campaign. I’ve seen kids running for middle school student council who were more politically astute and capable as candidates than that clown.

Women have come forward and made sworn statements. Please don’t say you need to find a link.

He couldn’t win last time and he won’t win in 2020.

Doesn’t matter! He lost!

It doesn’t matter he says all the right things! He lost!

Alabama has this partisan split Republican 49% vs 35% Rat.

14% point advantage & he lost! He couldn’t even win with a 14% point advantage. With a 14% advantage he couldn’t motivate the party faithful to ignore the out-of-staters & take a chance.

He didn’t have the charisma to do it with a 14% point advantage! That is the very definition of a incompetent candidate. He needs to go do something else politics is not in his skill set!

If he does win the primary I hope he wins. I hope I win the lottery too. (I’d have to play if first though!)

The Senate is too important! The USSC & federal judiciary is too important! Much more important then Moore’s ego!

Pick your battles, Alabama. Roy’s hill could be another Pickett’s charge.

I am not quite understanding your point-
if the national party is providing the funding, then the national party is going to have the say in who they fund

If Moore doesn’t need funding from the national party, he can tell them to F- off.

them that pays the piper calls the tunes.

Moore already lost once to Jones. How does Moore suppose to beat him this time?

I wish Moore wasn't running, because I would rather not try to win an election with the baggage he now has, but to offer a stab at a guess, I would say perhaps the people are now awoke to the fact the media lies to us about sexual accusations, as the Kavanaugh hearings so amply demonstrated.

Perhaps people once willing to believe the accusations, are now willing to give Moore the "due process" and "benefit of the doubt" that he deserved in the prior election?

Perhaps he will find a better voice this time around, and step up as a better campaigner.

I think the fact that it is a Presidential election year would work in Moore's favor, because Alabama is going to support Trump massively, and I very much doubt they would "crossover" vote for Jones at the same time. A lot of voters who didn't vote the last time around will end up voting for whomever is the Republican nominee.

I don't know, and I hope we don't have to find out. As much as I admired Moore for standing up to those Federal judges, I think he can best serve his state and his nation by letting someone else run.

The Senate’s Conservative Fund is backing Arnold Mooney in the primary. The buffoon Roy Moore will needlessly split the conservative vote. I’m sure the RINO GOPe will have a candidate that they’ll smother with money!

“How about that? It’s because they pulled funding from Moore in the first place that convinced a lot of people he was a child molester and rapist.”

I agree with many of your other sentiments that Alabama should decide its own elections and everyone should stay the heck out of it, etc. However your statement above is not an accurate statement.

Moore’s strengths have always been his morals and values. He wore religion on his sleeves. The allegations and the fact he dated young women gave him the creep factor and resulted in him becoming an embarrassment. He was also a lousy candidate. Many wrote in names on the ballots or stayed home.

Isn’t there some area of Alabama where he could be a STATE senator? (Double face palm)

doesn’t matter what the national party did or didn’t do Moore lost, let that sink in.

It certainly does matter. Only an idiot loses without trying to understand why they lost.

The Republican Party by suspending Moore's funds, made it appear that he was guilty. That appearance of guilt abetted by their stupid and immoral haste to condemn him on the basis of unprovable accusations, easily cost 25,000 votes, which was the margin needed for victory.

Why did George Herbert Walker Bush lose to Bill Clinton in 1992?

He lost because he lied when he said "Read my lips, no new taxes!"

This breaking of his word caused a major schism in the party which created a demand for someone like H Ross Perot. It also took away from George HW Bush the "character" issue, so he could not longer accuse Bill Clinton of being a big bag of lying sh*t, because the minute he did so, the media weapon would be out with that video of "READ MY LIPS! NO NEW TAXES!

Thereby reminding voters that George HW Bush lied to them.

So yeah, sensible people try to understand why we lose an election. They do not just stop at "We Lost!"

Bush lost to Clinton because of Perot. Perot got 20% of the national vote.

Do you blame them?

YES! This is why we often lose. The Democrats circle the wagons and protect their idiot candidates. Our side cannot wait to try to help the Democrats stab them in the back.

A primary candidate who has already gone out of his way to undermine his own party has no business complaining when they work against him later.

Kinda depends on how important that Senate seat was. Was the revenge on Moore worth the loss of that seat?

Certainly not to me, but then my feelings weren't hurt in the earlier matter.

From my perspective, what was important was giving Trump another Senator to help him drain the swamp and approve Judges.

By trying to get Moore, the National party stabbed us all in the back.

I agree with what you've stated, Old Friend, with the exception of thinking Alabama is better served by letting someone else run. My non-Alabaman opinion is that Alabama is better served by vindicating the victim of a successful Kavanaugh'ing. The whole nation is better served by removing the Kavanaugh'ing tool from the leftist's toolbox. As long as the tool works, they will keep using it. And what could be better than a successful re-bid for Moore into office to prove that the tool is now utterly broken?
