Trump: I've Reached a Deal With Mexico. The Tariffs Are Off.

President Trump's tariffs against Mexico have been "indefinitely suspended," he was proud to report on Friday night. He explained that the two parties managed to reach some sort of agreement.

I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended. Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to....— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 8, 2019

....stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. This is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States. Details of the agreement will be released shortly by the State Department. Thank you!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 8, 2019

Last week Trump threatened a 5 percent tariff on all goods imported from Mexico and was planning to enforce them on Monday unless the government agreed to help stem the tide of illegal immigration.

According to the new agreement, which is posted on the State Department website, Mexico will be deploying national guard troops throughout the country and to the border and will be "taking decisive action to dismantle human smuggling and trafficking organizations as well as their illicit financial and transportation networks." The two countries will also reportedly be working closely to follow Migrant Protection Protocols.

"This means that those crossing the U.S. Southern Border to seek asylum will be rapidly returned to Mexico where they may await the adjudication of their asylum claims," State explains. "In response, Mexico will authorize the entrance of all of those individuals for humanitarian reasons, in compliance with its international obligations, while they await the adjudication of their asylum claims. Mexico will also offer jobs, healthcare and education according to its principles."

When you deal with an adversary like Mehico you make them honor their part of the deal FIRST before you agree to anything. You can’t trust a criminal narco State.

Rule of 65:

Having reached the age of 65, minor misspellings and grammatical errors don’t matter

Personally, I would have liked to see Mexico take some action first, before dropping the tariffs.

I just don't trust them...

So, the agreement AND a recent court decision says that illegals must remain in Mexico and be processed there. Hopefully that means that everyone in detention now can be sent packing back to Mexico and the place can be cleared out, saving taxpayers a lot of money.

my guess is that everything will be back to “normal” after about three weeks, and more caravans will start to continue towards the USA. I know that it sounds so pessimistic, but seriously, I’ve heard all this before.

It sounds like a RINO announcing promises of “victory” after the next election.

We should change our court and hearings to last on first out. Take new arrivals and jail them and bring them to court within twenty days. Then put them on a plane home.

Sounds good on paper. I am skeptical that anything will actually change. Hope I'm wrong, but illegal immigration is now breaking all records, there is an international industry actively supporting it, and the international left sees this as their opening to finally take down the United States for good. The plan at this point is to stall for eighteen months and for the next Democrat president to throw open the borders and abandon even the pretense of immigration control.

We'll see what happens.

I agree with you. This was a win for the corporate cronies who were screaming about the increasing prices of their shiny suvs.
Waiting to see the actual numbers, as this administration has seen illegal numbers higher than any other.. maybe several combined.

The left will keep talking about the “tariff war” for the next 2 years.

Why is it acceptable to the Establishment that the average tariff every country we trade with is about 8%? Why is this ignored?

If you pay attention you would know that the President is on the case. He is tending to the most egregious trading pardners.

The others will come along as a result

By the way, We will not go with out groceries because the Mexian tariff revenues did not materialize

I imagine that he demanded a signature and made it clear that reneging will cause immediate institution of tariffs which will grow and stay in place until they truly get their act together. President Trump has more leverage against other nations than Reagan had against the pusillanimous dems...then and now....

You obviously do not have any confidence on President Trump. You think he would just say:' oh well, I tried'?

Shame on you.

“I want you to take a message back” to the White House, Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, told the attorneys, according to people familiar with the meeting. “You didn’t hear a single yes” from the Republican conference. He called the proposed tariffs a $30 billion tax hike on Texans.

The poster is obviously a Ted Cruz hater, and thinks because TC was born in Canada he was not qualified for the presidency. Totally ignoring the fact that Ted Cruz's was a natural born citizen who was born and raised in Delaware which made him qualified for the presidency.

I never had anything against Ted Cruz but I did not vote for him in our TN Primary on March 1st 2016. I voted for a different candidate

I voted for Donald Trump in the general election.
