The ONLY way I see the NPV as constitutional is if the states in the NPV Compact took away the vote from their citizens. They could then award their electoral votes to the winner of the NPV.

OF COURSE, their citizens WOULD NOT participate in the NPV vote count. DEMs might not like it, but IT WOULD be constitutional.

Maybe it’s not a legal argument, but practically speaking a close election would involve ENDLESS recounts. How would the count be determined? By the networks? By the Secretaries of each State (who control the state elections)? They don’t certify their counts until weeks afterwards, and there may be challenges.

The bigger the prize, the larger the incentive to cheat.

As an MBA, I always knew NPV = Net Present Value

Not advocating NPV. Just saying withdrawal from voting is the only way its constitutional. But, it takes [currently] 11 states and DC out of the voting. NPV in reverse for the GOP.

We should do the opposite.

What we need to do is to return the ability for State and regional parties besides the big two to once again flourish because they can hope for national significance simply by dent of more local successes.

To do that we mainly need to reverse the 17th Amendment but we also need to increase the number of Senators to three per State, with each State having one of its Senators coming up every 2 years.

Doing that would help to weaken the power of the two big parties.

I don’t see any issues with Net Present Value.

I am for it.

When using TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms) one should define what a TLA is.

The states can award the electoral votes in their states anyway they want. If they wanted to grant them all to candidates with blue eyes, they could do so.

It’s continually referred to a a compact, which is not what they call it. A compact between states would require that state A must do something in order for State B to do something. In this plan the votes are dependent on the results of all states, not a single or group of states.

The whole thing is stupid.

But, being from MA I never really had a reason to vote for President because it did not matter. Now it would.

It’s still stupid.

If I remember correctly, it would eventually get decided in the House if there were significant issues with the States selecting electors and no candidate gets 270 when the votes are counted in early January, the election goes to the House, which (unless illegals are exluded from the Census) is probably now in permanent Dem control ...
