"I don't think that we advance ourselves toward a solution by politicizing the border by simply talking about a wall, and not taking into consideration all the other dimensions of an immigration policy based on a 21st-century world, based on the technology we have, based on relationships we have with the leaders in the region," he said. "Those leaders have a responsibility to help us as well, and right now we've ignored them." Can anyone translate this mumbo-jumbo?

Of course it isn’t going to solve the problem.
It might mitigate enough to allow other methods to come into play. Right now it’s a total mess.

1. Build the wall
2. Enforce e-Verify
3. End welfare for illegals
4. End anchor baby citizenship
Problem solved, even if we just do 3 & 4.

Tom Ridge, the personification of a stick-up-his-butt conservative Republican. Trump mostly destroyed these rats, but some still scurry about. Who can forget this massive fail?

Why are these people so one dimensional? Tariff pressure is just ONE component and is necessary until the wall / fence is completed, Border patrol is beefed up and legislative reforms made. sheesh, what a numbskull.

"I'm not quite sure tariffs on Mexico are going to solve the problem for us"
A couple questions:
* Who, specifically, is the "us" on behalf of whom you claim to speak?
* Even if tariffs don't fully 'solve' the problem, will they prove beneficial to Americans in forcing Mexico to help curb illegal immigration, thereby moving us closer to solving the problem?
* Do you have something to propose that will solve the problem?

If we do nothing, it will work out and everyone [of importance] will be happy.

IIRC, Ridge was about as feckless a DHS secretary as any who have served in that post. None of them have been very effective anyway.

Wrong question.
Better questions is: Will the Mexican tariffs HELP to reduce the number of illegal immigrants streaming across the southern boarder?
Companion questions:
- Will building a wall on the southern border help to reduce the number of illegal immigrants?
- Will enforcing e-verify employment questions help to reduce the number of illegal immigrants
- will denying social benefits and unemployment to illegal immigrants help reduce the number of illegal immigrants

Tom Ridge is saying to accept democrat BS about border ‘tech solutions’ - -
silliness that does nothing to stop illegals but lines the pockets of liberal tech companies with wads of taxpayer money. Why?
'Tech solutions' benefits include cash kicked back from liberal tech companies (million dollar 'SPEECHES' for all liberals) - AND tech company's willingness to put their boots on the necks of conservative citizens.
Tom Ridge is also saying that whatever dirt deep state thugs have on him they'll keep to themselves ... for now.
