Seven House Republicans Join Democrats in Voting to Amnesty 2.1 Million Non-Citizens

Seven House Republicans joined their Democratic colleagues Tuesday in voting for legislation that would grant permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship for more than 2 million undocumented immigrants.

The American Dream and Promise Act grants amnesty to more than 1 million immigrants brought to the country illegally when they were under the age of 18, including roughly 700,000 migrants shielded from deportation by then-president Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive action.

The bill also applies to the hundreds of thousands of migrants admitted to the country under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which is intended for those fleeing violence or natural disasters, and the roughly 4,000 Liberians covered by George W. Bush’s 2007 Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) executive order.

Taken together, the various designations cover roughly 2.1 million migrants, the Center for American Progress said in a Monday statement.

The legislation would grant conditional permanent residency to the eligible immigrants for ten years and provide them a path to citizenship if they meet certain educational and employment requirements. It passed the House 236–187 with unanimous support from Democrats, who were joined by Republicans Don Bacon of Nebraska, Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida, Will Hurd of Texas, Fred Upton of Michigan, Chris Smith of New Jersey, Dan Newhouse of Washington, and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania.

Republican critics of the legislation passed Tuesday have argued that it further incentivizes illegal immigration and fails to address the threat posed by the record influx of migrants arriving at the southern border.

“This bill does nothing to address our crisis,” said Representative Mike D. Rogers (R., Ala.). “Instead, it tells an entire generation of illegal immigrants that breaking our laws is rewarded.”

Democrats, Rogers said, “would rather reward illegal immigrants than secure our borders, enforce our laws, and fix this crisis.”

The legislation does, however, prevent the provision of state funding for undocumented immigrants’ higher education if the same programs are not made available to all U.S. citizens.

Too true. When you have the treason twins (Cornyn/Cruz) for senators what does it matter?

While raising import tariffs may give Mexico second thoughts about its immigration policies this policy would halt the invasion

In the hundreds of postings here in Free Republic rarely is this brought up. It’s Known As Reciprocity. We should be treating anybody illegally crossing the Mexican border into the US the way the Mexican’s do Any American illegally .crossing into Mexico. No free lawyer Entry denied heavy fine and possible imprisonment. before getting kicked out.

It’s time we consider illegal entry by any person who is a non Mexican citizen illegally entering the United States through the US Mexican border a defacto Mexican citizen with limited Mexican constitutional rights subject to their laws while transiting. As well as any Mexican citizen entering illegally exempting those who do so legally and meet US citizenship requirements.

Democrats with their open border jingo bingo should not be allowed to allow to pervert the concept of sovereignty get twisted into being propagandized as “White Nationalism”. Use of that term is usually directed when the immigration issue is brought up to devalue of the protections an American citizen have by being one.

When allowing the hordes illegally entering the US through the Mexican border avoids recognizing and dealing with the 2nd class treatment that American citizens get while legally residing in Mexico which not just includes denial of voting privileges but employment, and land ownership in their name.

Worse yet All of which when given to illegals and property ownership by them is used in states which Mexico has previously claimed.that could be used to support any reclaiming effort should regime changes in Mexico arise ,

Our border with Mexico has always been contentious, allowing potential hostile to the US property ownership to happen in those states could lead to serious problems in the future. .

Today’s so called democrats insist Americans must allow illegals storm in here by the hundreds of thousands despite their cost to us citizens. Claiming benefits are cheap labor which winds up removing PT job opportuities for citizens including teenagers and full time work for blacks.

That open door sanctuary policy is suddenly requireing billion$ in tax dollars, which is never enough. Tax money that should be going to our citizens for their sustenance, health, education, and housing even infrastructure are being diverted to illegal’s needs.

But Americans must do the tax flagellating punishment because we’re the very rich United States and must divert those billion$ to fill the needs of those poor illegals plus give them the right to vote. Sustained by our tax money which our children’s children if not aborted will be paying for.

What never gets mentioned in all of this is the lacking reciprocal treatment. If we applied that policy . Would this continue ?

Rank choice voting was on the ballot twice in Maine, as a “citizen’s initiative.”

Both times, a majority of voters in Maine’s Second Congressional District (80% of Maine) voted “no,” but enough voters in Maine’s more liberal First Congressional District voted “yes,” so it passed.

Rank choice was aimed at Maine’s previous governor, conservative Paul LePage. But a judge ruled that Rank Choice Voting violated Maine’s Constitution, which allows elections by a plurality.

But Rank Choice Voting was ruled OK for federal elections.

The two minor candidates, Tiffany Bond and William Hoar, together received 8% of the vote.

Incumbent GOP candidate Bruce Poliquin and democrat challenger Jared Golden, a former Marine who served in Afghanistan, each received 46% of the vote. Poliquin had 2,500 more votes than Golden, but under rank choice voting a candidate has to have at least 50.1% to avoid “Rank choice” from kicking in.

People like me engaged in “bullet” voting, meaning I chose only one candidate...one for the House, one for the U.S. Senate. I had no second, third or fourth choice.

The votes cast for Tiffany Bond and William Hoar, both liberals, after weeks of counting, were allocated for the voters second choice, and most of them went to the democrat challenger, who then broke 50.1%.

Congressman Bruce Poliquin sued in federal court and lost. He eventually conceded. I wish this mess had gone to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Thank you for the explanation. I am very sorry to hear that this blatantly unconstitutional method of voting has been allowed by the courts.

I am not sure that SCOTUS would have overruled.

You KNOW that this BS voting method will be adopted by other states, ensuring that LIEberal Democrats never lose again!

Scary stuff!

I’d vote for Louie Gohmert to get rid of Cornyn.

I can’t think of anyone else who could compete with Cornyn.

Louie would be great except he’s not qualified. He still has a soul. We all had high hopes for Cruz but DC is a cancer that eats away at the very fabric of America. Secede or die!! Those are now our only options.

As Commander in Chief Trump has had the power to stop the invasion all along.Instead we get threats and posturing and finger pointing at Congress (not that Congress doesn’t also deserve the finger pointing].

Hopefully Don Bacon is done. Maybe we can get Lee Terry back to primary him next time around. My ancestors settled in this state before it was a state. I think the forces at work in this country now are as Tucker Carlson characterized them last night; business interests are running the country into the ground for the almighty dollar. Illegal immigration will not be stopped until the Chamber of Commerce is run into the ground. Trump is the only pol actually representing any American citizen in Washington now.
