Joe Biden’s campaign of limited exposure: How long can he keep it up?
Washington Post ^ | May 26,2019 | By Annie Linskey and Chelsea Janes

through the cornfields in an RV, while Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) unveils a “Family Bill of Rights” and tours an ethanol plant.

And here’s former vice president Joe Biden’s agenda for the holiday weekend, according to his campaign: “Joe Biden has no public events scheduled.”

Those seven words are becoming familiar for the Biden team. Aside from a campaign swing right after announcing his candidacy, Biden has kept his head down while his rivals rush from state to state to state. Even when he has held public events, they have included only a handful of questions from voters or reporters.

The light public schedule reflects the unique position of his campaign, advisers say: With near universal name recognition and high favorability ratings among Democrats, the former vice president does not need to introduce himself to voters like nearly every other candidate. And as the leader in early polls, he can attract media attention without splashy events.

But there are risks. Voters in the early primary states — especially Iowa, with its caucus system that rewards on-the-ground organizing — want to see the candidates personally and often. And there is the danger that Biden’s schedule could reinforce a word President Trump is already using to describe his candidacy: sleepy.

Biden’s campaign says that’s not going to happen. “I have zero worry that any voter will leave a Joe Biden event with doubts about his energy,” said Kate Bedingfield, his deputy campaign manager. “They’re going to see it everywhere he goes.”

Biden spends 30 minutes to an hour greeting voters on a rope line after his public events, Bedingfield said.

But after a short burst of activity in the early primary states, his schedule the past two weeks or so has mostly involved fundraisers, which —

The more he shuts up, the better his chances to win.

Wisconsin and PA-Ohio are often cited, but Hillary made only one or two public events per week after her Sept 11 collapse in any place. (Yes, private, closed door fundraisers 3-4 times a week.

Trump was doing two or three per day!

Sounds like he thinks he can doing what Hillary did. Everytime she held a low energy campaign event her Numbers dropped. Especially if she fell, fainted or had a coughing fit. Biden is afraid he’ll have a runnin’ off of the mouth fit. The less opportunity for that to happen, the better.

How long can he keep it up?

Maybe he should take a page out of the playbook of the last Vice-President who ran for President?

Most of the Dem candidates are running just for the cash. They don’t expect (or want) to win. I think Joe understands his situation. Fund-raisers are where he wants to spend his time.

Joe thinks he has a big lead. he’s coasting. Unlike the Donald, he’s lazy.

He wants to be President but doesn’t appear for weeks at a time?

Remember he’s going to be 77 years old in November. The only logical answer is that he’s got a serious illness / ailment which he and his people are trying to get under control.

A pretty smart move on the part of Vice President Biden.

The more he’s seen the less people will like him.

Biden seems to be ideal for a “Front Porch” campaign in the tradition of McKinley and Harding where he stays home and goes out every day to give a speech on his porch. People can travel to see him instead of vice versa.

I like the cartoon where the Lib woman says, “I thought Joe Biden was sniffing my hair, turns out he was just tying his shoes!”

He’s an elderly man, for heaven’s sake. An elderly man who’s had not one but two brain surgeries. He’s unfit on medical grounds, nevermind his many other failures and shortcomings.

he’s worn out.

After the prolonged output, his system just fades away.

Stamina will be a problem for him

His search for a running mate led him to sniffing Buttplug, he hasn’t been right since.
