Adele, attractive sentimentality. Could almost drown in it.

Bascom Lamar Lunsford, “To The Pines”

To the pines to the pines where the sun never shines
Gonna shiver when the cold winds blow.
Look down, look down, that lonesome road
Where you and I must go.

We lost a tremendous, much underrated talent a number of years ago, named Norton Buffalo (He is best known as Steve Miller's harmonica player). I had the pleasure of meeting him while working the 'Green Room' at the Banjo fiddle and guitar festival at Long Beach State in the late '70's.
This song of his qualifies for the theme:
Cold Cold City Nights - Norton Buffalo
If you like that one he has others worth checking out:

I like her stuff. Very few of the contemporary artists attract me, but she is original...in my opinion.

That one has been kicking around a long time. Lunsford recorded this in 1949. He collected and recorded a lot of old songs from the southeast, many of which would have been lost without him.
To: Southside_Chicago_Republican
I find it important to collect these things.
