I think most of them are in the race for the campaign contributions generated.

These people are vicious little animals. Some might just fade away when their money runs out and they find they can’t fill a high school gym or a senior citizen center. But the ones that make it to later on this year and into next year are going to be effin’ vicious.

Then Trump entered the race and almost overnight, dominated the race from that point in. Right from the very start, Trump was drawing huge, enthusiastic crowds wherever he went.
The Democrats have nobody with that kind of star power this cycle. Their front-runner Joe Biden draws Jeb Bush type crowds. In fact, Biden is shaping up to be the Jeb Bush of the 2020 cycle.
