It seems a crazy idea that any president would actually want to be impeached.
But Donald Trump has so subverted Washington logic with his wild, norm-crushing presidency that there is now a serious conversation -- at least among Democrats -- about whether he views the ultimate constitutional crisis as a weapon in his re-election campaign.
The possibility is shaping the strategies of Democratic leaders as they weigh the political risks of impeachment and their duty to defend principles of American governance.
Many Democrats fear that Trump may be laying an impeachment trap that could consume the House majority, distract them from key issues like health care and alienate persuadable voters.
But it's also possible their leaders could be talking up the idea that Trump wants to be impeached as a way to quell discontent among some base activists that Washington Democrats are not doing more to constrain the President. READ: Pelosi the pragmatist aims her party toward the middle The question is not going away, given Trump's staggeringly broad effort to subvert investigations of his presidency, campaign, personal finances and business career.
"The President is almost self-impeaching because he is, every day, demonstrating more obstruction of justice and disrespect for Congress' legitimate role to subpoena," Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday. One of Pelosi's top lieutenants, House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff, is, like Pelosi, wary of the risks of impeachment. But he acknowledged Trump's own actions might be propelling Washington toward a precipice.
"Part of our reluctance is we are already a bitterly divided country and an impeachment process will divide us further," Schiff said Sunday on "This Week" on ABC News.

Just by suggesting Barr look into Biden/Ukraine, Trump got eery Democrat on the planet to say investigating political opponents is bad.
hahahahahaha...I am so going to draw a cartoon on this involving a stick, a box, a string, and some kind of faux impeachable offense as bait...
Or maybe as the now out-of-favor Ann Coulter once said, “A box, a stick, and a banana...”
:) Well, THAT’S to be expected when your default position is a hysterical, self-perpetuating, cluster-boink!
Where is the picture of Dr. Goebbels? I’ll check back later.
This is more BS damage control form CNN and the rest of the Rats. They tryng to float the idea that “we’re not going to let mean and crazy Mr. Trump fool us into a divisive impeachment fight”. The truth is they have seen the polls regarding impeachment.
Navel gazing is now news....
Bring it on, bitches!
So, Impeachment is Trump’s fault...
The idiocy runs deep at CNN.
“The President is almost self-impeaching because he is, every day, demonstrating more obstruction of justice and disrespect for Congress’ legitimate role to subpoena,” Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday.

They abuse their “roles” by threatening to impeach Trump for having two scoops of ice cream instead of one. If he complains about it, he’s “obstructing” their abuse of power, and therefore guilty of obstruction and should be impeached.
Whatever. Mix equal parts of infantile, corrupt and stupid and you’ll get the “honorable” U.S. Congress.
They dont think.
They are idiots and projecting.
Oh, yeah, that's what the Dems are all about, CNN.
The Democratic Platform: We hate Trump. Really hate him. Hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em.
Typical CNN which starts from false premises to get to a wrong conclusion. First, "Washington logic" is not logic. It is the reaction of a mob who think that they have a right to be in control, which is the only "princple" of governance that they are defending. They are swamp critters defending their right to THIS 10 mile square hunk of effluvium.
Feeling like Br’er Rabbit Democrats? Run like the bunnies you are.

were not going to let mean and crazy Mr. Trump fool us into a divisive impeachment fight.
Don’t forget stupid. Somehow this naive dimwit stumps them like a chess master, over and over again. How infuriating!
LOL! Since when is spying on political opponents a "principle of American governance"? Or lying to a court? Or leaking classified information to the media? Or peddling influence for cash? Or sending pallet loads of cash to terrorist-supporting governments? Or handing weapons to drug cartels? Or murdering whistleblowers?
RATS! they figured it out!
