The South Bend, Ind., mayor also spoke of the need to overcome divisions during a swing stop at a gala for an LGBTQ civil rights group. He said that LGBTQ people, women, immigrants, people of color and with disabilities and workers are experiencing a “crisis of belonging in this country.”
"What every gay person has in common with every excluded person of any kind is knowing what it's like to see a wall between you and the rest of the world and wonder what it's like on the other side," Buttigieg said during his keynote address for the Human Rights Campaign at Caesar’s Palace.
Buttigieg, 37, a former Navy intelligence officer, described coming out while mayor and preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.
"I was seized with the awareness that I could be killed in action at the age of 33, a grown man and an elected official, with no idea what it was like to be in love," he said. "I knew that I had to be who I am."
Buttigieg also mentioned an op-ed he wrote where he came out as a gay man while Vice President Mike Pence was governor of Indiana. Pence, a devout Christian, has said homosexuality is a choice and has publicly stated marriage is between a man and woman.

I can imagine “a potus Pete” in tough negotiations with Putin/other crazy enemy or our European “allies” only wants to talk about his brave ‘coming out’. While America being fleeced completely.
He’s not even qualified to be anybody’s staff, let alone cabinet material.
With the parents he had/has, I’m wondering if he is one of the 90+% of gays who were molested when they were young boys. Yes, in a double-blind study, the number of gay men who were molested when they were young, was over 90%.
I don’t think Mike Pence (or anybody much) would disagree with that. But the AP and other news sources confuse the issue by refusing to admit the possibility that someone could choose NOT to follow their sexual inclinations because they consider them sinful or otherwise wrong.
It’s called ‘imprinting’. Your first sexual experience generally determines your attraction targets. When young women are molested, it frequently makes them so angry at men that they choose lesbianism. Notice how NO ONE talks about lesbianism as a genetic trait? That’s because there has never been a study that ‘proved’ there is a genetic link. And the 2 studies in the 90’s that ‘proved’ a genetic link for gayness, have been debunked. No one has ever been able to find a genetic link since those two studies (which is how you actually prove results) so, the scientific community knows the truth, but PC won’t let them embrace the truth.
Who,in their right mind, would want to elect a “gay” president? All sorts of problems foreseen here.
Pete, sorry but instead of running around America, you should tell South Bend what you will DO FOR THEM! Your city could make Chicago look safe...

Can someone enlighten me on the duties of a US Naval Reserve Intelligence Officer in Afghanistan, hundreds of miles from open water? I’ll stipulate that just being there is dangerous, especially for the openly gay. But was he leading combat patrols or working in an office? From the hagiography on Wikipedia, B. is no dummy, is very ambitious, and has been building his political narrative for most of his life. Was his naval unit deployed as a group, or did he arrange for a tour in Afghanistan as a resume enhancer?
Now we're at a point where if I don't overtly remodel my vocabulary, use their words, bake their cakes, let them teach their sexual quirks to my kids, or dance to their tune, they may well find a way to destroy my business, sabotage my private life, or put me in jail for what they ludicrously misdescribe as "hate."
Times have changed, Mr. Buttigieg. Maybe you hadn't noticed.
The left just want a gay POTUS and gay couple in the WH. To them his “gayness” is his qualification. For the rest of the country...not so much.
I don’t think he has a chance, I don’t see a compelling message. That may be fine in the D primaries for regressives but not a national election for POTUS.
That said, the left can’t help themselves, I’d have no problem if they made him their candidate.
Get down on your hands and knees, Pete, and show them why they should vote for you.
