Maximum Security, ridden by Luis Saez, finished first Saturday in the 145th Kentucky Derby at Louisville's Churchill Downs. "This was my dream. I just feel so glad," Saez told race broadcaster NBC.

exactly...all that hype..racing’s biggest day and biggest race..and they butchered it. Another sporting event ruined by the “referees”...i had to laugh at the the winners circle interview, the owner of the “winner” had the worst look on his face...he knew.
He along with 2 others was pushed aside and a rail horse was bumped to the rail.
It doesnt MATTER whether the 2nd horse was disturbed or not; he wrecked at least one other ITM horses momentum and basically gets placed behind that one....so the 2nd gets 1st regardless.
Look at the results. No horse was really impeded and kept their pace. They were all running in their lanes basically head to head in the stretch. The best horse won.
Oh hush up about a woman. We arent all men here, so stop presuming youre in an exclusive club.
And she wasnt the only. 2 men.
did u see her running her hands thru her hair??...and that confused look?...gee, i wonder who’s wife she is..which Churchill executive shes married too..what a joke.
Nonsense. He was hindered, but the least of the 4 horses directly affected.
Again, Max affected horses who could have placed. That is all that matters. It is not strictly about win vs place.
Women have usurped the man and are generally where they don’t belong. Period. Couldn’t care less if you don’t like it. The truth hurts.
Nonsense. War of Will was affected but the horse HE squeezed was completely flustered by it and practically backed up. He also crashed into the rail horse who could have placed up there.
You have no call to berate this woman. Never mind she had 2 men with her.
BTW, it takes GUTS to DQ the Derby winner. He wouldve been pulled down for any old claimer. Look at the belly-aching theyre getting for this including on my legitimate racing fan forum; they KNEW it wouldnt be popular. But it was the right thing.
Badoom ching! He’ll be here all week. Don’t forget to tip the waitresses. Try the veal.
I saw the horse right behind MS and it looked to me that was the horse whose land MS went into - but it didn’t look like that horse was slowed down. I don’t know where War of Will was in that crowd and never saw any horse crash into the rail directly caused by MS.
Quarter of a mile is not nearly enough for most horses.
Geez, Man OWars only loss by a length was over 6f after being left 4 lengths behind, standing. Other problems happened but that bad start ruined it.
And youre talking 2f w/lesser horses.
Gotcha. Thx
I feel sorry for you. This was a BS disqualification*. I say this as someone who bet on the #1 horse (who suffered the most interference) and as someone who has been following horseracing for more than 50 years. (This year's Belmont Stakes will be the 54th consecutive one I will have attended.)
* It's clear to me that women who haven't ridden in a significant number of real races should never be stewards. I really wonder how many races this chief steward had even watched in person before she was appointed to her postion.
ML/NJ
It was minuscule. No one except those right next to him noticed it. He did not make a difference in the other horses outcomes.
Wish I had not watched the race.. I didn’t even know it was today. I came upon it by accident. I didn’t know the names of the horses, but I liked the name Win Win Win so I rooted for him. The injustice is what ticks me off!
Because the owner is a scumbag opportunist. He and the jockey were booed bigly in the Winner Circle. Their exuberant smiles faded fast. Hope they enjoy their ill begotten “win”.
I know. Upsetting. But it had the potential for disaster...thats why this type of thing is against the rules. Jockey just didnt control his horse. Terrible. Hollow victory for Country House.
War Of Wills knew Maximum Security did not impede anywhere near the point of changing the outcome. Classless Country House owner and jockey didn’t care and went for the steal.
I’m a woman and I agree with you, Jim. Usually it’s just the old Leftist hags that screw everything up..
“It’s clear to me that women who haven’t ridden in a significant number of real races should never be stewards. I really wonder how many races this chief steward had even watched in person before she was appointed to her position.”
I think this qualifier should apply to ALL stewards! People who haven’t ridden or trained in a large number of races should not be allowed to make decisions of this magnitude!
