Facebook announced Thursday afternoon that it had designated some high-profile people, including Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who's notorious for using anti-Semitic language, and right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, as "dangerous" and said it will be purging them from its platforms. Jones and his media outlet InfoWars had previously been banned from Facebook (FB) in in August 2018, but had maintained a presence on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook. On Thursday, Jones and InfoWars will be barred from Instagram as well. Other people banned Thursday include fringe right-wing media personalities Laura Loomer, Milo Yiannopoulos and Paul Joseph Watson. Also included are Paul Nehlen, an anti-Semite who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2016 and 2018. "We've always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology," a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement provided to CNN Business. "The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today."

A Facebook spokesperson told CNN Business the company goes through a lengthy process and takes into consideration a number of factors before determining an individual to be "dangerous."

Don’t be shocked when Farrakhan is silently reinstated.

Nazis were allowed to march in Skokie Illinois, decades ago.

The (heavily Jewish ACLU) backed them.

Social media platforms might be seen as a “public soap box” in the town’s central park.

Ass it now stands, the platform owners are opting out of the “free speech” business.

Finally I have heard discussion about the need, for “reinstatement” proceedures if somebody innocently steps over lines.

I don’t like conservatism being silenced. I do’t care much for the pain that Alex Jones caused for families of children that were murdered.

Somewhere the is a common sense solution.

“When will Facebook start banning outlets that spread the dangerous Russiagate conspiracy theory and the Russian disinformation called the Steele Dossier?”

Find a plaintiff (preferably in Texas, Louisiana, or Mississippi) who has been defamed by someone on Facebook (preferably a high-profile leftist who should have been banned as “dangerous” under Facebook’s professed standards). File suit against Facebook for defamation in federal court in Texas, Louisiana, or Mississippi. When Facebook raises Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, argue that Facebook is not an “interactive computer service,” but is an “information content provider” under the Act and is acting as a publisher because it curates and exercises editorial control over, and thus participates in developing, the content on Facebook pages, and thus is not protected under that statute.

While there have been close to 100 cases on Section 230 of the CDA and Facebook, neither the Fifth Circuit nor the Supreme Court have ruled on this issue. Also, this claim should open the door to a lot of discovery on Facebook’s practices in deciding what goes on Facebook.

Just a thought.

Will any conservative in a position of power challenge this?

The bans are just getting started. I mean, c'mon! Laura Loomer? Dangerous? Paul Joseph Watson? Are they serious?
