Dedicated armchair observers of insider Washington political maneuvers make a hobby of reading the tea leaves. Like the lethal version in "Game of Thrones," nothing happens by chance; there is always an underlying strategy to every decision.
Which begs the question: Why did Mueller decide to bring his investigation to a close now? Some observers thought it could go on for years why end it before Trump's term ends? Why end it at all?
My initial reaction, like others, was that Mueller completed his report because he was finished. There were no more leads to follow, and so Mueller decided on his own to voluntarily end it. But on further consideration this seems very naïve.
Mueller and his team of rabid anti-Trumpers had every incentive to keep going indefinitely. The very existence of the Mueller investigation cast a cloud over the Trump presidency. Like every other effort from the #NeverTrump Swamp, they were seeking to hamstring Trump at every turn. Having an ongoing investigation was a valuable weapon in the anti-Trump arsenal. Why give it up?
The idea that Mueller somehow ran out of things to investigate doesn't hold water. Mueller and his team knew over a year ago (if not on day one) that there was no Trump/Russia connection. Mueller could have continued to chum the water by looking into Trump's finances or picked a few other minor players on the Trump team to harass and torture with nighttime SWAT team raids and long stints in solitary confinement. They spent the last year doing just that.
And crucially, keeping the Mueller Investigation open gave the Swamp denizens in the FBI and CIA a legal rationale to deny access to documents that would uncover their spying on the Trump campaign.

Pushed. Seven weeks after Barr was confirmed, he reviewed Muellers findings, determined it was a partisan witch hunt, and pulled the plug on the coup cover-up.
Trump appointed RoselWeasel based on some bad advice from a closet never-Trumper.
Once RosenWeasel appointed his mentor to the position, the die was cast. Trump was hamstrung and not inclined to ham-fisted actions. Trump had to let it play out until he could actually find and get a competent AG installed.
Based on RosenWeasel’s actions over the last two years he stands convicted of being a Deep State Weasel.
Now that the Plot is unwinding, he has had a come-to-Trump rebirth to avoid the possibility of gaol. He’s still a weasel.
Had he been honest and objective, Mueller would have investigated the whole matter, beginning with the phony dossier, the FISA oaths, the Obama administration spying on Trump etc. To ignore this, Mueller proved to be a tool of the democRATS and MSM. To conjure up a claim of obstruction when there was no initial crime, proved his bias to oust the POTUS.
Mueller didn’t have to stay around. Volume Two of the report solved the problem.
Lots of his report is Mumbo Jumbo. He milked as much money as he could get, after knowing there was nothing. He ran interference for 2 years, daring Trump to fire him. We may find out why he quit or simply speculate. Barr probably said, enough is enough. There is no Collusion which means no
Obstruction. Barr probably said, you cannot pretend there is Collusion anymore, to satisfy the BIASED Hate Trump Media and the DNC.
If this is true, and if it was in fact an illegal act and an attempted coup d'état: THEN, the TRUTH must be exposed and anyone guilty of criminal activity prosecuted, convicted, and penalized; it is the most serious political scandal in US history; it should be brought before the Supreme Court immediately; and the Supreme Court should rule on it forthwith, in such a manner as to prevent any reoccurrence in the future.
All honest, benevolent people want TRUTH exposed, whatever it may be.
I think the dems had “something” on Sessions...
To change mindset so completely after leaving the Senate where he was one of a hundred to a position of top law enforcement officer caused the dems to let him know what they had on him...
Can Rosenstein be a stand up guy, and float the idea of wearing a wire to entrap Trump, at the same time? If anybody desperately needs to go states evidence and get immunity, it is he.
Another theory:
The good guys now have Mueller and Rosenstein by the short hairs.
They are owned. When told to jump, they can’t even dare ask how high, they just set themselves hopping.
One thing about Rosenstein, is that he is really smart. I am guessing he will figure out a way to save his butt, by giving up others.
This is what populates the Deep State, the US Congress, and the news media.
Washington is about power. There are no friends. As Harry Truman said: "If you need a friend in Washington, get a dog."
When an honest man thrusts himself into their midst and demands TRUTH and transparency, his very presence threatens everything that such people hold dear--their power, their delusions, their ambitions, their wealth, their cherished positions of success, their deceptions, their fictions, their beliefs, their self-concepts--their entire worldview.
The very intrusion of such a man incites terror and fury, as TRUTH always does when it threatens delusion, and they imagine him to be false, insane, stupid, power-hungry, and everything that they themselves are but struggle to deny; they correctly perceive him as dangerous; and, from their viewpoint, they MUST destroy him.
If that man is of towering intelligence, puissance, wisdom, and prowess, they panic. Their situation is desperate. They cannot understand what's happening. They cannot believe that they, having reached what they consider the pinnacle of power and success, could not be the wisest, most intelligent, most puissant, and probably the most benevolent people ever created, and, therefore, that anyone who opposes or disagrees with them must be the opposite of all that. They can neither accept nor defuse. They are lost in confusion. They are dangerous.
Unless you envision an incredibly complex conspiracy, in which Sessions endorses Trump and then winds up trying to get him removed from the Presidency, it would appear that Sessions was appointed into a position in which he was a fish out of water. I have little doubt that a fair number of Never Trumpers, along with the Democrats, were telling him he had to recuse himself. They may have even convinced him that the claims against Trump's campaign (and the dossier) were true - so he thought his best move was to remove himself entirely from the process.
Either way it suggests a self-preserving political mindset, and if he felt he couldn't serve the President as AG, he should have stepped down.
The TRUTH has already been exposed and we all know it. If there are things we dolnt Know they can only be WORSE than what we know now. Like the Secret Service being involved in the coup, perhaps. The reality is not one of the conspirators is even under arrest right now. What makes anyone conclude that they will be? Frankly, I have been tic ticked to death already.
It's not that complex. It's a simple phone call.
rrrrinnnnngggg.... "Hey, Jeff, Donald Trump is getting a little too much momentum. Let's have you inject yourself into a trusted circle, by endorsing him. That way, you are in position to deliver a coup-de-grace, if needed. If he wins and offers you a position, take Attorney General."
Wasn’t there a long meeting between Rosenstein and Trump before Barr was appointed? Aboard Air Force One? Something like that?
That’s my thought, too. Barr knew everything that Mueller didn’t have and also knew everything other more quiet and judicious DOJ investigations did have so he told Mueller it was time to wrap it up and submit his report.
It rings a bell, though I don’t trust my memory.
What I really want to know is who put Barrs name on the AG list. It was like he came out of nowhere. Yes, time will tell but sure seems like a stand up AG so far
You’re right about one thing: Trump is a genius.
