Campaigning for president in Iowa, Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke thinks farmers need to do their "fair share" to combat global warming, handing over some of their crops to save the Earth.
Kid you not. According to Breitbart News:
Democrat 2020 presidential candidate Robert "Beto" O'Rourke proposed Friday in Iowa that the U.S. "allow" farmers to give up their "fair share" of crops to fight climate change.
O'Rourke stood aloft as he proclaimed his message at a rally in Marshalltown, Iowa Friday:
If we allow farmers to earn a profit in what they grow, if we allow them to contribute their fair share in combatting Climate Change by growing cover crops, allowing the technologies that invest in precision tilling and farming, capturing more of that carbon out of the air is another way in which they can make a profit. Keep those farms together, pass them on to the next generation, and allow them to provide us our food and national security, our independence from the rest of the world, our ability to provide for the rest of the world.

The median wage for a small farmer is 66K, half below, half above. On that 66k they pay for equipment, seed, labor, taxes and raise a family. How much does he want to rob them of?
The corporate farmers have exported technology to feed the world for decades, including machinery, seeds and hand-holding. (and if the people it’s given to, are too busy finding reasons to declare war on this and that tribe and wrecking each other’s equipment and land, is it American farmers’ fault?) How much more does he want them to give?
We are not the world’s nanny. And we should be worried about our own grain stockpiles for our own rainy day.

True that! ;-) How about soybeans or sorghum or wheat then? I would think that most plants don’t vary THAT much percentage wise on CO2 absorption.
I got a five year plan for a four year term, and there’s twelve years left until there’s ten years left to when there’s fifty years left until (etc etc)
A little extreme plan, perhaps, but this is the saving of a planet we are talking about so the end justifies the means. As one of Beto’s role models observed many years ago, you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs
