American business has a very short memory.
Other countries are used to dealing with the USA like it is run by morons.
Now that Trump wants FAIR trade deals they are upset at not being able to take advantage of the USA anymore.
In a way blind greed does indeed make one stupid.
We appeared to have a ‘battered wife syndrome’, or whatever you’d call it. Hopefully no longer.
Next...decoupling with Mexico. Maybe that’s why Trump gave Mexico a year to stop the drugs. Does he want to give our car parts manufacturers time to get up to speed?
I remember the memorable line in Peter Lynch's book "Beating the Street" where he suggested the principle of investing in companies that any idiot could run because sooner or later some idiot will be.
As I age and grow wiser I think Lynch was way too optimistic.
Why is it that we had to go from 1992 until 2019 for people to grasp what we were financing in China?
It boggles the mind how poor our assessment is.
Once again, since 1992 I have been saying that China would become exactly what it has become, with our help.
Do we even have a long range planning agency any longer?
I asked the same question after 09/11.
Next:
NO Chinese PhD students on PRC scholarships in the sciences at US Universities.
That would be great.
Many many science & engineering departments would whine & cry and claim they would have to close down if that happened.
ChiComs now have the R&D advantage
I don’t doubt you AT ALL.
And we should face the truth sooner than later, when it’s worse.
Chinese students, often spies, are smart and they are having the effect of papering over the failure of the publeck ejucashun sistum.
Even the ny slimes gets it right {once in a while}.
WINNING, I AM NOT TIRED OF WINNING!!!
“....Other countries are used to dealing with the USA like it is run by morons ...”
One of Trumps 2016 campaign statements was that we have been indeed governed by morons!
I think many people did grasp it, but during the Slick Willie years, commercial interests in DC were give decision making authority that had been exercised by the Defense Department before. China was given MFN status during Slick's terms and sponsored for WTO membership. Then China began to work its way into supply chains that even included some US military materiel and equipment.
Commercial interests (globalists) have far too much influence over our government's decisions. I never thought the US should have gone beyond basic diplomatic relations with Red China until it stopped being Red China.
“ChiComs now have the R&D advantage”
Yep.... they’ve made huge strides in Thorium reactor tech. among other things.
Theres another big reason to decouple; one day the wheels will fall off their Marxist/Fascist economic system. When that day comes the more dependent the world is on China the harder it will hurt everyone.
China would never survive without stealing everyone’s stuff and their Leader looks like Yogi Bear so there
Between January 21, 1988 and January 21, 2017, it pretty much was.
