This weekend, history will be made as the Unplanned movie will open in more than 1,100 theaters across the nation. And you can expect the backlash to be intense. And I mean very intense. The foundations of the pro-abortion movement, in particular, those of Planned Parenthood, will be challenged. Evil will be exposed and hope will be exalted.
By all means, make your plans to flood the theaters this weekend, not just for your own benefit, but to help send a message to the movie industry that this movie needs to be seen. That means it needs to be widely available.
If youre not familiar with the background to Unplanned, it tells the real-life story of former Planned Parenthood clinic director Abby Johnson, who is now a pro-life champion.
Earlier this week, on my radio show, I spoke with Ashley Bratcher, the Christian actor who plays Abby in the movie. She explained what it took for her to become Abby Johnson, and as youll see, she did it with excellence.
I was able to watch an advance release of Unplanned in the privacy of my home, but I was caught off guard by one pivotal scene.
To be clear, Ive been involved in the pro-life movement in varying degrees for many years. And Ive often shared the horrifically-graphic, deeply-moving images of aborted babies.
Back in the early 1990s, the day before participating in an Operation Rescue event in Washington, DC, we had an all-day prayer meeting at my house.
During our prayer time, I passed around one of those graphic pictures the mangled body of a late-term aborted baby. And as each person saw the picture, each began to weep. What have we done? cried out one of my friends.
You could say, then, that I was emotionally prepared for whatever was coming in Unplanned. Except I wasnt.
I had about 45-minutes free before going to teach a night class at our ministry school on a Tuesday night, so I told Nancy (weve been married for 43 years) that I was going to start watching the movie in my study while having my dinner salad.
You see, I thought the movie would proceed chronologically with Abbys life and so, it would be a while before any disturbing images might appear. That meant I could sit at my desk, have dinner, and watch the first part of the movie.
Without giving anything away, lets just say that an important scene in the movie occurred earlier than I expected. (For those concerned about bringing children to Unplanned, first, there are far more graphic images of aborted babies found online than anything seen in the movie. Second, if your kids are old enough to have an intelligent discussion with you about abortion, they are old enough to see the movie.)
As the scene unfolded it is something witnessed at Planned Parenthood clinics every day of the week and it was scientifically fair and honest I was completely overcome, sobbing uncontrollably. Yet there was nothing manipulative or contrived about the scene in the least. Just the simple reality of an abortion. And I lost it.
For the next 15 minutes I tried to compose myself, shutting the movie off and distracting my mind (after first pouring my heart out to the Lord in prayer). Then, when I thought I was ready, I went to talk to Nancy, who hadnt heard me tell her I was about to watch Unplanned.
I managed to get out the words, I have to compose myself, before completely losing it, sobbing and unable to speak.
As you can imagine, this totally scared Nancy, who thought someone close to us had just died. (What would you think if your spouse came walking into your room and was sobbing so intensely he or she couldnt talk?)
When I finally did speak, I barely got out the words, That movie, before explaining the rest.
Then, a few minutes later, when I shared with my students about recent, aggressive, pro-abortion developments, one of the students asked if we could stop and pray.
We did, and the class never happened, as we spent the better part of the next 2 ½ hours in prayer, often weeping and wailing for the lives of the unborn.
Honestly, I am amazed that Pure Flix was able to get Unplanned into so many theaters, knowing how hotly opposed this movie will be.
In fact, I have learned that the number rose from 900 to 1,100 theaters (at last report) due to popular, advance demand. I also heard that one theater canceled the showing but had to reinstate it after a local outcry.
Not everyone will be affected the way I was. But Im confident that all who see this movie with an open heart and mind will be positively and deeply impacted for the cause of life.
Make your plans to be there this weekend. Perhaps this will be a turning point in the history of the modern, pro-life movement.
Its way, way past time.
The Lord said to Moses, 2 Say to the Israelites: Any Israelite or any foreigner residing in Israel who sacrifices any of his children to Molek is to be put to death. The members of the community are to stone him. 3 I myself will set my face against him and will cut him off from his people; for by sacrificing his children to Molek, he has defiled my sanctuary and profaned my holy name. 4 If the members of the community close their eyes when that man sacrifices one of his children to Molek and if they fail to put him to death, 5 I myself will set my face against him and his family and will cut them off from their people together with all who follow him in prostituting themselves to Molek.
Leviticus 20:1-5
I do not think that I could bear watching this movie. Those who most need to watch it most likely won’t see it, either.
Personally, I think that abortionists should be required to show the corpses of the aborted babies to the heartless mothers who chose to kill because they couldn’t be bothered to use contraceptives or close their legs.
They are also psychopaths in many cases. Those that aren’t usually use a complex system of lies to rationalize their role in killing children. According to an account by one former abortionist, most abortionists do not stay in the industry for long.
.....but wait....there's more.....
Remember when the "kindly, compassionate" Clintons (Bill was then-President)
assured America that abortion would be "safe, legal and rare?"
============================================
Oops. The kindly Clintons plumb "forgot" to mention that they
themselves opened the gates so that Planned Parenthood could traffic
(and profit) in baby body parts.
(EXCERPT--WND.COM). Then-Pres Clinton is credited w/ opening up the market in fetal body parts. Since Clinton signed the National Institutes of Health Revitalization Act of 1993, fetal-tissue research has expanded into a federally subsidized multi-million dollar industry of selling human spare parts salvaged from abortions.
For example, the NIH budgeted $21 million in fiscal year 1999 for grants and awards for fetal tissue research. At the University of Washington, the NIH subsidizes the central laboratory for human embryology.
According to a lab notice obtained by WorldNetDaily, it can supply tissue from normal or abnormal embryos and fetuses of desired gestational ages between 40 days to term. Specimens are obtained within minutes of passage, and tissues are aseptically identified, staged, and immediately processed according to the requirements of individual investigators. The notice is signed by Alan G. Fantel of the department of pediatrics.
At the time, two organizations that profited from this growth industry were (the now defunct) Opening Lines, a business formerly located in West Frankfort, Illinois...... and Anatomic Gift Foundation, headquartered in Laurel, Maryland.
Opening Lines publicly gave credit to President Clinton for opening up the lucrative business in fetal tissue trade. According to Opening Lines, on January 22, 1993 (the infamous anniversary of legalized abortion---Clinton is not without an in-your-face governing style), Clinton lifted the moratorium on federal funding. This action created a great demand for fetal tissue and has made possible the development of treatments for individuals afflicted with serious diseases and disorders, says the Opening Lines sales brochure.
Both companies served as wholesalers for the marketing of baby body parts to researchers, drug companies, hospitals and universities. These groups harvest the baby parts from abortion clinics and ship them to their customers.
Opening Lines provides fetal tissue researchers with a fee for service schedule, which gives prices for each body part. For example, Opening Lines charged:
<><> $150 for a spinal column;
<><> $400 for an intact embryonic cadaver;
<><>$75 for 8-week-old baby's eyeballs (40% discount for a single eye);
<><>$150 for two arms or legs; and,
<><> $100 for the skin of a 12-week-old baby.
I hadn’t cried since my father past away 16 years ago; then our best friend in the world, our dog Max, passed away after 18 years(he died right in my arms), and I cried like a baby. Those are the only two time I have cried until I watched the trailer for this movie.
I think something has changed in me after Max passed away. I have an intense desire to protect, pray for and defend these babies that the Left in this country so cavalierly MURDER!
Unreal! Each baby is worth $1,000 or more.
This is all about the Left Billionaire Club trying to keep themselves alive forever.
Agreed.
Just like other pro-life movies ("Gosnel," "October Baby") it will be ignored by the MSM and the movie critics. And, like the others, will be forgotten in a month or two.
that Ad is so funny.
“Unplanned” movie review and comments.
“uncontrollable sobbing”
That’s why I want to see it in the privacy of my own home. And after that review,
my suspicions about seeing it at all are even more concerning.
For the same reason; both believed they were ridding the world of unwanted people.
At some point the abortion lobby in this country has to be called to account for the war on blacks; for several of the last few years, NYC has had more black abortions than live births - that is why it is legal, why some push for the government to bear the cost (a “public service”), and how they sleep at night.
Al $harpton complained when the 1996 welfare reform was passed that people treated black babies as cash cows for their mothers; he insisted they weren’t breeding for cash, but he has since been proven wrong. Their birthrate fell steeply, and they’ve become even more of an irrelevant sideshow than ever. Buying off a small number of politicians/leaders has allowed this country to leave the rest to rot on their urban reservations, and nobody gives a damn until they need their votes every few years. In the meantime, every day brings more foreigners into this country who rapidly advance past them on the socio-economic ladder...
I agree.
Younger relatives have told me some young people are anti-abortion in the general context of life (not human life in particular, but life in general). The only way it will be outlawed is when more people publicly cheer the number of black children exterminated by this genocide.
My wife and I are out of town this weekend and are going to see it tomorrow night.
We also bought a second set of tickets locally that we wont use but want to do our small part to support the filmmakers and important movies like this.
My mom and dad went to see it this afternoon. They said it was excellent and anyone over 18 should see it. Said it was eye opening , sad, tragic and yet very uplifting...I am guessing the over 18 is because it is R due to the one scene on ultrasound that caused the woman to completely change her life. Wish the Christian Schools would show it in the upper grades...
I understand, and even my buddy, Mr Kimber, and I would have trouble not sobbing thru that film.
Appreciate that information, I was unaware these two corrupt reprobates were responsible for our nation becoming baby parts traffickers,
Ahab and Jezebel will have it better on the day of Judgement,
Abby Johnson is one of my heroes. I used to listen to her on talk radio a lot.
There are many thousands of Abby Johnsons— pro-abortion zealots who went to work in abortion clinincs, then realized exactly what it was they were doing.
I know a few women like Abby.
I have been pro-life all my life. Thursday evening I saw the scene you were talking about in this article. It completely floored me. It wasn’t until this movie that I completely grasped the LIFE part of it. I knew in my brain that this was a life. But now I know in my heart that it is so.
Everyone should see “Unplanned”.
