Democrats are in charge of the House of Representatives once again, and so they have placed a bill on the House floor that would admit the District of Columbia to the Union as a state. The political motivations are clear. The new state for which they propose the unwieldy name State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth would be reliably Democratic, adding two senators and one representative to the partys totals.

Nope,no way! Every individual they sent to Congress would be a Rat....FOREVER! The only reason why I’m reluctant to support independence, rather than statehood,is the prospect of Chinese naval and air bases being set up there.
You can stop reading at National Review.

That whole thing where we instigated a war to take PR from Spain was questionable. I submit we should either return PR to Spain or grant them independence.
No. The great majority of people from Puerto Rico, whether situated there or having moved to the mainland, have proven themselves to be takers, not producers. There are, of course, exceptions, but that is the general observation that I make after nearly 60 years of life on this ball of dirt. That means 2 reliably Democrat Senators, and that means “NO WAY!” to me. As it is, the Dems and their compliant synchophants in the Dead Elephant Party have done enough to change the electorate to one that is more pliable and desirous of Socialism and less liberty.
No, no, a thousand times, NO!
If we made PR a state, where would we deport @AOC to?
In the case of DC, one should just carve off the piece east of the Potomac (the Anacostia region) and the far west part of DC (Georgetown), and present it back to Maryland. In the case of Puerto Rico...present them the only possible solution, they can become part of Florida, as one county.
Guam? Fine, they can attach themselves to Hawaii or Alaska (their choice).
It was Eric Cantor’s vote for PR statehood that drove me to seek his ouster.
The Uniparty has already decided that PR will be our 51st state, it’s going to take a huge effort to defeat this.
Maybe, depending on how long it takes for them to decide to speak English! My extended family has a branch from Puerto Rico. In a family gathering last weekend at the dinner table, they were jibber-jabbering in Spanish to each other, even though they were interspersed among the whole group. Very rude. They CAN speak English — some very well; they just choose not to. Pisses me off. Again: RUDE!
Let me guess: they are all conservative Christians with strong morals who will vote a straight anti-transgender, anti-atheist, anti-gay marriage agenda, right? Hah! They’ll vote straight up Dem and get as many freebies as possible. Corrupt island.
Next time the choice will be statehood or independence, no third option of remaining as they are.
No reason for me to look at National Review again after they deliberately made a special issue to denounce Trump.
I won’t forget that.

West Side Story song America on Puerto Rico:
Puerto Rico, You ugly island,
Island of tropic diseases.
Always the hurricanes blowing,
Always the population growing,
And the money owing,
And the babies crying,
And the bullets flying.
I like the city of San Juan.
I know a boat you can get on.
Hundreds of flowers in full bloom.
Hundreds of people in each room!
Life can be bright in America
If you can fight in America
Life is all right in America
If you’re all white in America

Maybe things have gotten better since Leonard Bernstein wrote that in 1961. Uh, guess not.
Territories are required to be self sufficient as a prerequisite for statehood.
Nobody who advocates waiving this requirement is a conservative.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, pretty much details this article entirely.
Time for the US to divest ourselves of non-performing assets. PR, Virgin Islands at a minimum need to be turned independent. They add nothing but expense and are nothing but a liability. Time for them to go, even if they don’t want to. Statehood - never.
Two more RAT Senators
I’d say independence.
Make @AOC the ruler-for-life.
No.
Im willing to grant Puerto Rican independence but not statehood. D.C. must never be a state. It was set up as a special federal district for a reason.
Give ‘em back to Spain.
Put it on Craigslist under the FREE section.
Makes me wonder how and why National Review still exists. They’re the epitome of RINO, GOPe, Chamber of Commerce, Country Club Republican’s. The kind you want to punch in the throat.
The only things that should happen to Puerto Rico are: All the leeches that now call Florida home, go back ... They become an independent country, no longer affiliated with the United States of America.
Tell them that all their debt is forgiven as long as they declare their independence from the US. Hell, even toss a little start up money their way just to shut them up. Be cheaper in the long run.
