In the long run, it will be far far cheaper to build the wall and man it big time, than to pay for all the worthless disease-carrying uneducated illiterate fecund criminal alien invaders AND their chain migration relatives AND their freakin' anchor babies forever. Anyone who is not a libtard can see that. The ONLY reason libtards want the illegals is so they can train them to vote "D" for everything and ensure themselves voters. In addition to those who vote multiple times in different states, vote under stolen Social Security numbers, and vote from the grave.

Pathetic.

“only 57 MILES?!”

That is just from this one funds transfer.

120 miles has already been built or placed on contract, and $7 billion more dollars has been identified for this year.

If we average 57 miles for each of the remaining seven billions, that would total over 500 miles contracted in Trump’s first three years.

Not just any miles either - the most important ones are being prioritized first. And its not just any barrier either - it is “wall system” (barrier, patrol road, lights, cameras, alarm systems) designed to seriously control the border where it goes in.

This year’s huge $8 billion money bomb is going to take a serious bite out of illegal traffic. It is designated to button up the Rio Grande Valley and the border cities, where most traffic now passes. Another year of $8 billion funding (what the Administration is requesting) would roughly build all the barrier needed for full operational control (given the additional people and technology that are separately requested).

“$1.375 billion appropriated by Congress”

So, can I quote that amount to you-know-who? I still haven’t written my reply back to him yet.

I found the actual letter from the SecDef:

https://twitter.com/kristina_wong/status/1110359691396374528/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1110359691396374528&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftownhall.com%2Ftipsheet%2Fjuliorosas%2F2019%2F03%2F25%2Fpentagon-authorizes-1-billion-for-new-border-wall-along-the-southern-border-n2543738

Bottom line: DoD commits to building 57 specific miles, but the price is not specified.

SecDef made up to $1 billion immediately available, which should conservatively be more than enough, so contracting can confidently go ahead. They will conduct a bidding process to get an actual contract price, but bidding does not start until the Government Contracting Officer has the money in hand.

The memo does say that the barrier will include a pretty full suite of bells and whistles (Patrol road, stadium lighting with grid electric power, cameras and special detection systems/alarms).

I’d expect the actual contract prices to be more like $10 million per mile, and the remainder will be applied to other new segments in coming months.

“So, can I quote that amount to you-know-who?”

I’m sorry buddy, but I constantly restate my points so many times, I lose track of the specific disputes (that is, I don’t know who).

But here is a link to a HUD site, where they mention the border funding in the Omnibus Bill, that also fuded HUD: https://www.novoco.com/notes-from-novogradac/2019-omnibus-appropriations-provides-increases-hud-funding-less-border-barrier-funding

They say:”the Homeland Security section of the law provides $22.54 billion for border security, including $1.375 billion for construction of 55 miles of new physical barriers along the southwest border in U.S. Border Patrol’s highest priority areas. The barrier funding was notably less than the $5.7 billion the president wanted, and when signing the legislation, the president declared a national emergency to authorize the border wall funding.”

So Congress gave him $1.375 billion in FY19 funds for barrier building (55 specific miles). All the rest of the $8 billion total that he plans to spend this year on barrier, he is taking out of hide by re-programming other appropriations, as is within his authority.

$2.5 billion was announced to come from DoD Counter-Drug accounts, $600 million from Treasury Asset Forfeiture accounts, and (the only part requiring an Emergency Declaration) $3.5 billion from unobligated Military Construction Accounts.

Congress is scheduled to vote tomorrow (Tuesday, 26 March), to attempt to override the President’s veto. They are expected to fail, which will clear the way for the full $8 billion to be obligated onto contracts this year.

"The Roosevelt Reservation extends the first 60 feet inside the United States." ... more about the international boundary being in the middle of rivers, etc.

This brings up a question: If there are any places where the wall has to be placed *north* of the actual border for a distance of, let's say two feet or more, then what is the legality of an MS-13 gang member's 9-month-pregnant girlfriend laying down on the Mexican side of the wall right up against the wall but actually in US territory, and begatting an Anchor Baby?

Thanks for the breakdown. I hope to send my reply to Mr. Congressman soon (the you-know-who who tried to imply Congress had given the amount requested by Pres. Trump).

Probably perfectly legal at the current time - but unfortunately that’s nothing that the President can do anything about at the present time. This is strictly and specifically in the hands of Congress.

The primary (first) barrier is routinely constructed a few feet North of the actual border, to provide some right of way for maintenance.

As a practical matter though, I don’t think that squatting next to fence to pop out a few bambinos would actually work for citizenship. Nobody is there to certify your birth certificate.

"Nobody is there to certify your birth certificate."

So you really need more than a videographer and a GPS? Does there legally have to be an "attending physician" or something? That doesn't stop people who are into home-birthing / midwives from obtaining birth certificates. How much would they have to pay a left-leaning certified midwife to walk up to the bars of the wall, look through, and say, "Where do I sign the certificate?"

Wouldn’t it be a great photo op to have an event with the President and Don, Jr., climbing up on a big ol’ US built, giant yellow Caterpillar bulldozer at the border and moving some earth...

Hell I’m from nyc and worked near him and shook his hand.

He was cordial and sincere but I didn’t know he would be one of the greatest Presidents of the United States one day.

And YES, I mention that I met him and shook his hand every chance I get because I don’t have much else to brag about in life so let me have that!! :)

It’s all a luck of the draw in Rockefeller Plaza. If you come down to the lobby to get your food order at the right times you never know who you might meet :)
