ObamaCare signups declined by about 400,000 people from 2018 to 2019, according to new data released Monday by the Trump administration.
The report shows that about 11.4 million people signed up in 2019, down from 11.8 million people last year.
The Trump administration downplayed the change, calling it a minimal decline in the number of people signing up for health insurance under the law.
The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which oversees ObamaCare, also said in a news release that there is stability on the Exchanges, a departure from arguments long made by other Republicans, including President Trump, that ObamaCare is collapsing.
Overall, enrollment has been declining in recent years, down from a peak of 12.7 million people in 2016.
Larry Levitt, a health policy expert at the Kaiser Family Foundation, wrote on Twitter that the Trump administrations cuts to outreach funding could be part of why enrollment fell.
He noted that enrollment remained largely steady on the 12 marketplaces that are run by states, and were not subject to the outreach cuts affecting the federally-run marketplaces.
In the past three years, enrollment in state-run marketplaces has remained steady at three million people, while enrollment on the federally-run marketplaces declined from 9.2 million to 8.4 million.
Average premiums dropped by 1.5 percent from the year before, as well, something touted by the administration as the first time since the ObamaCare marketplaces began in 2014 that premiums have declined.
Many insurers have gained profitability in the ObamaCare market after substantially raising premiums in recent years, and therefore do not need to repeat the same premium hikes as in years past.
Please, turn it up to maximum. Trump, call out the wolves and lets destroy this horrible monster.
ObamaCare? What’s that?
And why - in God’s name - would anyone sign up for that?
#ObamaVotersAreDumb
Biggest tax increase in the history of mankind’s civilization on Earth.
I signed up for it because it is all I could get and started getting worried. Sure enough, the first week into the year I was glad I had it.
BUT it is expensive, hard to deal with, etc.
Still waiting now two weeks to get a CT scan approved but if I end up in the emergency room they have to cover it.
Doctors don’t like it because the contract pay is ridiculous.
Insurance is such a racket.
I asked Invitae how much a BRCA test is since i qualify for a free one. $1500 if you have insurance but if insurance doesn’t cover it then you dont pay more than $100. That’s crazy
Thanks for posting. You outlined just a few reasons why going uninsured is a better bet than ObamaCare.
But if you’re glad you have it; then OK Fine. I’m glad too.
I had such a premonition that i double covered myself. I bought into one of those health share ministries to cover the deductible of Obamacare but I don’t trust them to pay out for something big like a $750k claim when you have a heart attack or cancer
We will see how it all turns out and whether everyone pays. I don’t expect it to be easy.
Personally, I’m waaaaay past tired of my vastly inflated healthcare premiums paying for a lot of freeloaders.
3.4% drop, after a decline in the prior year.
The headlines should be asking if there is any hope for the patient, and questioning if it is time to pull the plug. After all, ObamaoCare is on life support. And everyone is going to die.
Time for the loving family to say their goodbyes.
Obamacare is NOT a marketplace.
It has NO marketplaces. It has lies.
It has Democrat destruction and misery.
Now Democrats want to destroy Medicare.
And ruin hospitals & Doctors & nurses.
Ban the Democrat party. Imprison its leaders.
Repeal and Replace.
JOBS is the best replacement. Don’t let anyone tell you that Trump lacks a healthcare plan. He has one and it is called JOBS.
I’d like to see this evil and unconstitutional program decline by another 11.4 million, but I’ll take any progress that I can get.
