Lets not be confused by double speak. The bill (HB 5898) that the Connecticut legislature is poised to consider has nothing to do with aid in dying. Aid in dying is palliative care to improve the quality of a persons remaining life. The World Health Organization views such care as a human right. The bill would not expand desperately needed access to palliative care or expand patient autonomy patients already have the right to refuse any type of treatment. Instead, the bill concerns the authority of doctors. It sets forth the circumstances under which a doctor could actively prescribe lethal drugs to directly cause the death of a supposedly willing patient without fear of liability.
If the selective writing of lethal prescriptions was a valid medical practice, as proponents assert that is, there would be no reason for laws to immunize medical professionals from suffering any consequences from doing so. What is being proposed in HB 5898 would amount to a radical change in medical culture. Causing death could be viewed as an option in the care of some patients.

Did they get that idea from Nazi Germany?
I've heard that it is love of the last minute appeal. Nitrogen asphyxiation, barbiturate overdose and a dozen other methods of execution all have a interim period of a few minutes in which the prisoner either cannot be revived or would be brain damaged if he was. Thus a lot of work goes into some drug method that is nearly instant like the guillotine, rifle shot or a proper hanging.

So, why not guillotine, rifle shot or proper hanging? None of those are either cruel or unusual. The worse that can be said is that they can be messy.
As to how quickly it works ...
By contrast, suddenly breathing pure inert gas causes oxygen levels in the blood to fall precipitously, and may lead to unconsciousness in only a few breaths, with no symptoms at all.
And who gets to define and diagnose mental disability? Why, the doctors of course!
Goodness, that’s over half the population.
Hust like Hitler took care of them. Welcome to the Nazi Democrat P(arty. Their going to kill the xis million Jews of Israel and the mental defectives — not including themselves.
The first people the Nazis (the real Nazis) exterminated were the “mentally ill”. The term “mentally ill” has no clear definition and is simply the arbitrary decision by psychiatrists; who happen to be the craziest people of all themselves.
Well as long as the “mentally disabled” gave informed consent, I guess it would be ethical. /s/
As long as they aren't murderers.
Then suddenly we have to be humane.
Democrats - The Party of Death and Taxes.
It won’t just be the elderly.
Then the same drugs can be used on Death Row inmates, as they are approved for human use.
