Trump should stop attacking and lying about McCain
Washington Examiner ^ | March 20, 2019 10:00 AM | Quin Hillyer

One can spend several days trying not to overreact to President Trump’s latest, unprovoked tweetstorm against the late Sen. John McCain R-Ariz., yet still conclude that there is something sick and twisted about Trump’s obsession with the singular American hero Trump disparages.

Tom Rogan already in these pages has eloquently explained why, fake heel spurs or no fake heel spurs, Trump could never be fit to wear McCain’s discarded shoes. And lawyer George Conway, husband of top Trump aide Kellyanne Conway, has presented a persuasive case that Trump’s fulminations about McCain and other bizarre eruptions are signs of a personality disorder.

What remains, though, is a reminder that on facts as well as fulminations, Trump’s flip-out against McCain is full of falsehoods.

First, as many others have noted, Trump repeatedly accused McCain of trying to spread the so-called “Steele dossier” as a way to block Trump’s election, but the undisputed evidence shows McCain didn’t even become aware of the dossier until after Election Day. (Plus, McCain did exactly what a senator should do when provided such material: He turned it over to the FBI, without prejudice. But that’s beside the point about Trump’s dishonesty.)

What has not been as adequately refuted is Trump’s allegation that McCain voted against a bill to “repeal and replace” Obamacare, and that McCain’s vote was a big surprise. Neither element of that story is true.

First, by the time a healthcare bill finally reached a vote in the Senate, it was in no way, shape or form a “repeal and replace” bill. In reality, it was a shell of a bill known as “skinny repeal,” which did next to nothing other than keep...

I’m amazed that Trump has been a political force for what over 3 years now, yet so many that profess to be on our side don’t understand the first thing about him or his methods and what he has to do to get things done in the face of the greatest amount of political opposition in our history.

They foolishly continue to think that Trump just goes off half-cocked without any thought of the consequences or ramifications. Trump has been dominating in the Rust Belt and the polls already show that he is pulling away in those States for re-election and those states are everything when it comes to 2020. He mentions McCain for 1 minute and for the other hour he promotes the very policies that will win him those States and he knows full well with the media is going to obsess on and what the people are actually going to care about.

McCain was a major player, maybe the biggest one, in this ongoing Witch Hunt and they also sold out this country on the Obamacare vote. Decomposing in the ground doesn’t give him a pass on that and oh well let bygones be bygones when the Fallout is ongoing.

So keep on Trumpin!

He was asked about McCain. Stop asking him about McCain if you can’t handle it.

Who asked him about McCain before his tweets last weekend? Or at the campaign rally in Ohio yesterday?

Most of us wouldn’t go there but somebody has to be the bad guy.

He's running for reelection. Somebody else has to be the bad guy and Trump should act above it all.

No Bloody, He’s not but you are part of the problem here not part of the solution. McCain is in the middle of the deep state mess. His part needs to be exposed and will be exposed. POTUS was asked. He answered with restraint, how could he do otherwise when he knows what will emerge about McCain, what has already emerged?
Our President is fully engaged in making America great again, there is no room for lies and polite hypocrisy.

Just one of the reasons to dislike the McCain clan. No class. And then they used the funeral as an anti-Trump rally.

True. But Trump mentioning McCain at this point in time seems off to me. Clearly the news that McCain was the tool for the dossier being delivered to the FBI last week set Trump off. That said to most Freepers that was very old news.

The McCain daughter attacked POTUS first. Savagely. The comments were a rebuttal.

I think you crush your enemies when you can.

Too many linger around and cause problems. Discrediting McLame is a wonderful tactic and it also throws people like you and all the liberals into a tizzy, making you unable to get anything useful done to stop Trump.

He threw a firecracker on you and the rest of the ants and now you will run around in circles for days and not directly bother him.

You show he’s a genius!

McCain’s career started by.him accepting bribes from Charles keating . He should have gone to prison. It ended with him in the middle of a treasonous coup attempt and dying a vindictive bitter old man. I have no respect or pity for him or his family. He is on my piss on their grave list behind Fonda and Kerry Obama’s and The clintons

Absolutely. If Trump fails, it will be because people on our side failed to understand what's at stake here.

This wasn't just a four year election. This is a WAR TO SAVE THE WORLD.

Harsh words are the least of our worries, and they are necessary.

You are a never Trump troll so this response isn’t for you but to address the above it all nonsense in general

I remember in the 2016 primary when Trump was sharply criticizing Bush before the South Carolina primary. Everyone was freaking out oh how can he do that and expect to win the Republican nomination and especially win the South because oh we know so well that W was such a hit with those bumpkin Southern conservatives. Well Trump swept through the South and won the nomination pulling away.

Trump isn’t above it all and he never will be. He is IN it all fighting for America First on every front against every form of opposition.
Above it all gave us the loser bushes and the mess this country is in. The phony wolf in sheep clothing never Trump troll conservatives love the above it all because it continues to advance the globalist agenda. They can rot in hell with McCain
