A woman who climbed the base of the Statue of Liberty last July 4 to protest the separation of families at the Mexican border has been sentenced to five years' probation and 200 hours of community service.
Therese Okoumou entered the Manhattan federal courthouse on Tuesday with clear tape all over her face and a headband across her forehead scrawled with the phrase "I care!"

She also climbed a skyscraper in Austin, TX recently.

She missed a piece of tape over the nose.

I heard her on the radio proudly proclaiming she’s gonna do it again. So much for a foreigner (probably illegal) having respect for our laws.

Did that “feel your pain” Judge go for a test climb?
He said he wanted to see how dangerous it was for himself.
To: bgill
She is also an illegal. Why is she still here?

I would like to know if the good judge took into account the tourists who were in town for the 4th of July, on the trip of a lifetime, who may never get to tour the Statue of Liberty now. She deserved more of a sentence.

Probation is nothing but a joke. Every time a “judge” issues probation, they should receive the same sentence. What a bunch of clowns.

Theater. If she’s illegal, ICE will likely solve that problem.

My first thought. Her stunt cost those people not only their chance to see the Statue of Liberty, I believe they lost the money they paid to go see it. And then there is the lost income for the companies that run the boats to and from there. At the very least, her punishment should include monetary compensation.

last I heard of this, the judge wanted a ladder so he could climb the statue, too. Did he?

Id let her climb all she wants - the taller the building, the better. Maybe shell fall one day, or get stuck and wont be able to get herself down.
