There’s more suicides in 50s and 60s than I thought there would be.
White men are high up there.
So much is expected from any of them and maybe sometimes if you look back on your life and it just isn’t what you wanted it to be or thought it would be, you give in to the despair.
I just made myself so depressed!

Men of any race need to accept the humbling of age and the inconsequence of our life’s work in the grand scheme. Jesus is our redeemer and, without Him, all is madness and not worth living. My life certainly hasn’t been what I wanted but I’m learning to embrace what Jesus wanted and spending my remaining years living for Him rather than my ego or vanity.

Seesh, compared to being an economist under Clinton and then Obama our lives are roaring successes!
Hang in there buddy, we’re still desperately needed.

That and the fact that men, heterosexual, white Christian men in particular are held up in society as the lowest form of humanity. We’re the end all and be all of everything wrong in the world. We’re made out to be evil, worthless and completely undeserving of any consideration or respect.

That’s where they want you..despondent, depressed, in despair. Don’t let them do that.
You’re a fighter, a great supporter of President Trump and an encourager to your fellow freepers. We need more like you.

I am raising my family.
Lots of miles, lots of choices. Some bad, some good. Some I would rather do over.
But I will not cash out early. I’m a Christian, and that isn’t something I can do. Beyond that, I have a few great examples of fighting old age like the third monkey on the ramp to Noah’s ark.

I’m a WHITE guy pushing 70, LIFE IS GREAT.
Just got to keep busy doing something you enjoy.
After being in the rat race since 1965; when I retired I decided I would just do what I wanted to do, when I wanted to do it, and only as much as I felt like.
I’m a dumb old dirt farmer now, and I love it.

Suicides in the US have gone up 30% in the last 20 years. What have decreased during the same period are religious belief and practice. Up until the late 60s, Catholic children learned the Baltimore Catechism. Here are Question Number 6 and its answer: “Why did God make you? God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next.” When you don't go to church or synagogue — or you hardly ever go — you look for answers in THIS life, and even being very successful can be unfulfilling. Yes, mental illness is real. However, if, say pancreatic cancer were increasing at the same rate “depression” seems to be increasing — my point being that “depression” alone is blamed for all these suicides — people would be howling that something must be afoot. I do not buy that mental illness alone accounts for all these suicides. I have read the tweets and blogs of people who knew Alan Krueger well and NOT ONE alluded to his having a history of depression — not one. This is very unusual when someone commits suicide. Almost always, people will write something about the person having battled demons and finally being at peace. Krueger was teaching full-time, had a book coming out in June, was not separated from his wife, and was tweeting daily until the end of January. He does not sound “mentally ill”. What happened? What broke his spirit?
