Athletic coaches at USC, UCLA and Stanford got the boot Tuesday after federal prosecutors announced more than 50 people have been indicted in a college admissions bribery scandal.
Coaches were among those charged with racketeering conspiracy for allegedly accepting bribes in exchange for admitting students as athletes, regardless of their ability.
UCLA says its soccer coach Jorge Salcedo has been placed on leave pending a review and will have no involvement with the team.
The university said in a statement Tuesday its a potential victim of a fraudulent scheme but that its not aware of any student-athletes who are under suspicion.
Court documents say Salcedo, who was the head coach for the mens team, helped get two applicants who did not play competitive soccer into UCLA in exchange for $100,000 in 2016 and 2018. Authorities say nine coaches at elite schools were part of the scheme.
USC fired its legendary mens and womens water polo coach Jovan Vavic and Donna Heinel, the senior associate athletic director, after the allegations were made public.
Two former USC athletics staffers womens soccer coach Ali Khosroshahin and his assistant coach, Laura Janke were also named in the federal indictment, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Most NCAA rules that regulate recruiting are aimed at preventing schools and coaches from giving improper benefits and enticements to athletes.
In this case, parents were paying coaches to help students gain entry to college by falsifying athletic credentials and claiming that the students were being recruited to plays sports.
The NCAA says it is reviewing the allegations to determine the extent to which NCAA rules maybe have been violated.
Prosecutors say the investigation is ongoing but that it appears schools were not involved in the scheme.

They saw all the people who work in the DMV selling drivers licenses and fake IDs, and they said to themselves "why them and not me?"
How sweet it is! —Jackie Gleason. (Especially at USC)
Well, if they ‘identified’ as athletes, who is to question this?
Killer point!
..... Damn .... A buddy of mine used to be the assistant coach of the USC Womens and Mens Water Polo teams ..... Heck .... Maybe he will end up at the Helm once again .....
why not fraudulent admissions? The schools are total frauds anyway.
Tip of the college corruption iceberg.
I think the fake athletes business is probably the biggest joke of the year. You could have had some dimwit kid...signed up with a scholarship to play water polo for some college, and the kid would admit up front....he can’t swim.
Course, maybe this is the victim deal....you self-identify as a athlete...even if you aren’t one. Maybe I could self-identify as a NFL quarterback.
You knew ncaa would get involved asap.
Didn't anyone see the movie "Rudy?" LOL.
Hi Alberta. My husband said same thing last night. But then he was too lazy to read the 200 pages of docs like I did. These parents wrote very large checks to the same charitable org to pay for this. Only it really wasn’t. Then they sent it thru mail.
Btw the way love movie Rudy. Rudy worked his butt off for those grades to transfer to Notre Dame.
The best one getting arrested is the cheap CA dentist. He is the only one who lied to Singer and paid on installment plan. Lol
Now if the people who did this then turned around and took a tax deduction for a charitable contribution, then that's a different story. I understand that the tax fraud and money laundering charges may be legitimate in those cases, but I'm trying to figure out how the underlying "crime" (i.e., rigging an applicant's way through a college admissions process) is really a crime at all.
I agree. But, come on -- he had no business taking a roster spot on that football team. LOL.
They received letters that no goods or services were received in exchange for this donation. It’s honest services fraud. Some probably took the deduction. Rudy walked on the team. In the scrubs he was getting hit daily. You dont see a difference.
