The behavior of these companies has made me abandon my unconditional opposition to government interference in the free market, after more than forty years of holding to that belief.

"The behavior of these companies has made me abandon my unconditional opposition to government interference in the free market, after more than forty years of holding to that belief." I am with you though most Freepers will shame us. Economic arguments aside, the danger I see is that the United States has become a representative republic of corporate oligarchs rather than of the constitute people.

Yes, but because there has been interference by the government to positively influence and benefit these companies, then yeah. I support efforts to break them up.

Ditto for me.
Standard Oil was broken up for controlling roughly 60% of the oil market, because that was deemed to be anti-competitive. Google controls over 90% of the web-search market, AND HAS BEEN CAUGHT SCREWING WITH ITS ALGORITHMS FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES. This is a public utility, and should NOT be biased in any way. Ditto for Fakebook and Twatter - they are manipulating and censoring FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES, and that simply cannot be allowed to continue.
