Senate confirms Ohio’s Chad Readler as federal appeals judge over objections from Democrats

The U.S. Senate on Wednesday confirmed Columbus attorney Chad Readler to be a judge on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals over objections from Democrats including U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio, who portrayed Readler as a right-wing idealogue who has “actively worked to strip Ohioans of their rights.”

The Senate voted 52 to 47 to approve Readler’s nomination to fill a vacancy created when Judge Deborah Cook took senior status. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine was the only Republican who opposed Readler.

Readler has held several high profile roles in the U.S. Justice Department’s civil division, where he led a team of more than 1,400 career Justice Department employees, including over 1,000 lawyers. He has also been a partner with Jones Day in Columbus, and clerked on the Sixth Circuit with Judge Alan Norris.

. . . . .

Brown and Senators including Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer of New York objected to Readler’s past role as a Justice Department attorney who filed legal briefs that argued for striking down the Affordable Care Act and its protections for people with pre-existing medical conditions.

“Chad Readler is a clear and immediate threat to the health coverage of millions and millions of Americans who have preexisting conditions,” Brown said at a Tuesday press conference to decry Readler’s confirmation.

Brown also said he also objected to Readler’s past job as chair of the Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools, and his efforts to undermine the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He said Readler also defended the Trump Administration’s policy of separating immigrant parents from their children at the border and argued that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals is unlawful.

If we lose the judges, we lose the country. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS at this point, due to the power the judges now have.

And that power includes nullifying the parts of the Constitution they may not like, including the First and Second Amendments. Along with anything else they don’t like, such as Trump trying to secure the border.

It wasn’t supposed to be that way when the country was founded, but then again, the founders never expected people that radical to rise to power - ever. So as far as I’m concerned, if it comes down to having a Democrat, any Democrat, in that seat, or having Collins, she wins, by a LANDSLIDE, due to her judicial voting record.

If we do ever get good judges (i.e., safely have enough judges to not worry about violating the Constitution or engaging in other overreach), then yes, I would be on board for getting her out, based on her legislative record...and maybe in 2026, that could be the case, should Trump make it two terms. But we are nowhere near that now.

Yep. Sherrod Brown is a spouse and family abuser, it is a matter of public record. But the Ohio media protected him and it’s not getting notice nationally.
