Former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott said Joe Biden is the only Democrat he thinks would be competitive in the 2020 election against President Trump.
Joe will be able to perpetuate the image of Uncle Joe, and he is pleasant. He is qualified, Lott, a Mississippi Republican, said in an interview for the Yahoo News podcast The Long Game.
Half this bunch in there right now is not qualified, Lott said of the current Democratic field.

“Uncle Joe” has a bad #MeToo problem.
We’ve seen many of his girl and women groping photos here on FreeRepublic.
There must be many others that haven’t surfaced....yet.
Good luck with that, “middle-class” Joe.
PS: Biden was the guy who, as a junior senator in the early 1970’s, voted against the Alaska pipeline.
Dems dont care and gop does want to be called racist. Our country is hanging by a thread. I shutter to think what itd be like had Hillary won.
Harris most likely will be the nominee especially since California moved their primary up to one week after South Carolina. California has a boatload of delegates which will cement her win. If the media were fair, trump would win in a walk. But it will continue to be trump hate 24/7 while the media fawns over kamala in a jacket.
Thankfully she wont be 35.
Donald Trump was an untested presidential candidate when he narrowly won those rust belt states.
Now, after only two years, many steel mills are re-opening, factories are being expanded, the economy is doing well.
President Trump has really helped those rust belt states.
And the power of being an incumbent president should not be forgotten.
Lott is right. Biden is the best they have right now. Speaks volumes
In every presidential election year since then, he's either lost primary battles or refused to run at all ... against some seriously awful Democratic candidates.
After all that, he's now going to become a dominant contender at the age of 78? I don't think so.
Joe will be able to perpetuate the image of Uncle Joe. . . Stalin?
My theory is, the nominee is already picked, it’s all about the staging of the event now, just as with Hillary.
Maybe Joe can be Michelles’s VP. The “experienced steady hand”, etc. Too many Democrats will rebel if a white guy who will turn 80 midway through his first term is the nominee.
It’s Michelle at the top, with what passes for an experienced ‘moderate’ in the VP slot.
Yes he would. Lott was a member of the RAT party, even though he had
an R by his name.

Not in my neck of the woods. The closed factories are still closed. The empty industrial sites are still empty.
The song “Living Here in Allentown” still fits.
It’s a very complicated issue. And I don’t blame Trump very much. Two years is not enough time to fix twenty years of poor decisions. But the buck stops at the Oval Office.
——there has been absolutely no return of industry ——
What industry were you looking to return?
With near full employment, does industrial manufacturing return still matter? Where I live, there plenty of manufacturing jobs but few jobless workers.
i do not believe we will ever manufacture such things as paint brushes or screw drivers again. As the tariffs on Chinese steel bite, there has been a return of basic steel manufacturing. I can not measure how much was or is being returned. I doubt if the textile industry will ever return to the Carolina’s. Ditto the furniture business. However, relaxation of the air quality regulation might permit the furniture manufacturers to resume the production of high quality finishes that were essentially banned.
The manufacturing return remains fluid.
Gotta love those Republicans. Go Biden....errr....Go Trent Lott.
Harris will be the Howard Dean of this cycle. She will be the placeholder for Michelle, who will sweep in late to save the day. Michelle, the black Hillary.
Exactly, Mooch & Pedo. That ticket will be a challenge for Trump.
Bet on it.

Anything that would allow a semi-skilled worker to earn a decent living. Anything that would allow that worker to put money down on a house, and have a little left over at the end of the month.
I suppose it’s fair to say that those semi-skilled jobs are gone, and they won’t be coming back. But to accept that is to accept a large and permanent American underclass. Because not everyone can be a computer coder.
As for “near full employment”, that’s true in my area only if you count the McJobs. Nothing wrong with those jobs. But 30 years ago those jobs were just placeholder jobs until a factory job opened up. Now, no more factories.
One more thing. I freely admit that my area might be an outlier. Maybe good jobs are coming back, but for whatever reason not where I live.
Don’t laugh but I agree with Trent Lott. Joe Biden would be the strongest Dem candidate.
Biden would have won easily in 2016, and he would win, perhaps not as easily, in 2020.
That happening requires (as a prerequisite ) Buzzy Ginsburg surviving two more years.
I don’t think she will, so the Supreme Court which might have allowed her to serve will be gone.
There is a reason the left is in an utter panic over the court.
