The White House has narrowed down its search for the next United Nations ambassador to four names, according to Bloomberg.
Potential nominees include Dina Powell, a partner at Goldman Sachs; Kelly Craft and Richard Grenell, the current ambassadors to Canada and Germany, respectively; and John James, a former GOP Senate candidate from Michigan, sources told the news service.
The new list of candidates come after State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert withdrew her nomination for the post over the weekend. Nauert, who was reportedly favored by President Trump, was to replace former Ambassador Nikki Haley in the job. Her decision to withdraw followed reports that she once employed a nanny who wasnt authorized to work in the U.S.
Both Powell and Craft are well-connected within the Trump administration. Powell previously served as Trumps deputy national security adviser, while Craft is married to billionaire Joe Craft, a Republican fundraiser and coal executive.
James, who ran for a Michigan Senate seat but fell short in his attempt to unseat Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow, is also well-liked within administration's circles and has been considered for other jobs, according to Bloomberg.
Trumps elder daughter Ivanka Trump is another name that has been floated as a potential candidate for the position. Sources told Bloomberg that she is still being considered as a backup candidate if no front-runner emerges.

Put Grenell in that spot. He is on point.
They all sound good except Ivanka. Nepotism never looks good.
Nauert is leaving the State Dept.
The only one who is best suited for it is just wasting his time as Trump’s National Security Advisor: John Bolton. He hates the UN which makes him perfect..
John James, an interesting selection
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_James_(U.S._Senate_candidate)
Secty of St Spokesman position will be open. John James would be a good choice if he doesn’t get UN Amb
That is interesting also, I am impressed with John James.
Any thoughts on James future?
Dina Powell is too middle east oriented, a Bushie, and a Goldman Sachs type. She is CFR and good friends with Valerie Jerrett.
The hell with that.
Would having an openly gay man as the US Ambassador to the world be a good idea? Would it help with our battle against radical Islam? Would it help vis a vis Russia? How about with regard to China?
John James would make great optics to help break up the African-American voting block. Without that block of 95%, democrats are in big trouble. Democrats and especially Obama was deathly scared of Herman Cain, much more than Romney.
The President should run a national contest and the winner gets to be the Ambassador. That will show the disdain he should hold for that body of Socialists, Communists, and other such parasites.
Something else to think about.
If you think 5%-10% of 1800 Million Muslims can be won over by any particular appointment to UN, just forget about it. Radical Islam has not been subdued since Mohammad walked the earth in the 7th century. Only reason Radical Islam was not a serious world problem until last 50-60 years was poverty. Now with oil money, it can not be subdued until oil runs dry and possibly not even then due to increased world mobility with internet and jet travel.
Lifting John James up into that job, and letting him do it for two years...would give him a lot of experience. I could see him running for President in the 2030-era. Has potential.
I’d go for James.
How about “Is he qualified?” and “Would he do a great job?”
Link please..John James has a wife and children.
Thanks, I jumped the gun on that one
