MCCONNELL; Trump has said he will sign the spending bill AND issue an emergency declaration at the same time.
“can the money attained by the national emergency be spent the way he wants, or does he have to abide by the bill regarding restrictions?”
Bill Clinton spent the military budget on expendables on his social welfare giveaways. I saw photos of Marines in battle dress diapering AIDS babies in Africa. (He declared AIDS in Africa as an emergency.) So, I am guessing the president can pretty much spend on whatever he wants.
When GWB was elected I was an employee at General Dynamics. The president of GD sent around a general broadcast email that he had been contacted by the President elect’s office and been told to go to 24 hour shifts making bullets and bombs, as the inventory was currently empty. GD’s president said he’d been told the Pentagon would negotiate the cost after GWB took office. Good to his word, we got paid fore everything we produced.
Word at the time was, GWB’s office contacted just about every CEO in defense and ordered jet engines and spare parts across the board. The military must have been in horrible shape. A recently separated soldier told me that the guards at his base had bought their own ammunition as there was none available for issue.
NO...Plus the LOCALS have to approve!!
If he hasn’t read every d*** page of the bill, he’d better NOT sign it. There’s no telling what other crap has been stuck in it by the dems AND the Pubs.
FoxNews is reporting that McConnell has stated he will sign the bill at the same time signing a National Emergency.
Wow, does that mean he’s on board?
If so, I’ll take back my negative comment this is posted to.
Total kabuki.
Spending bill almost literally gives over the country to the chamber of commerce.
...Trump will sign...
not McConnell...
Mrs. Shepard Smith is having a hissy fit on his MSNBC program (that airs on Fox News).
I think this may mean that Trump knows RBG is at room temp...or soon will be.
Trump is no fool....
Trump has discovered some serious leverage somewhere is my guess.
HA HA HA HA!!! AWESOME!!!
Perhaps. But since there’s an explicit Congressional dispute path, my understanding is that path must be completed before the issue would be ripe for a court to hear.
Besides methinks this declaration would easily pass the rational basis test.
“Assuming the imperial courts don’t order him to stop.”
The U.S. Constitution is still in effect - but if not, then the Second Amendment will be.
I wonder if Pres. Trump knows Veto is not a mafia hit man ?
Veto the bill and declare the national emergency.
I know!
Why on Earth would he give illegals and govt workers MORE $$??
THE DEMS WILL SHET THE BED FOR SURE...HA!
There is no plan.
We were in the same place a year ago and told “wait until next year”.
Now we have Pelosi in charge of the house. We’ve had months knowing that would be the case.
If Trump had spent the last year developing a plan it would have been deployed by now. Either it’s not legally possible or he doesn’t have a plan.
“We the people” may get lucky and things work out with better border security. But it’s not by plan or negotiation.
After any massive cave-in, lots of bad things can be expected to happen...
It's almost like a 2nd coming of "Read my lips, NO new taxes!"... George must be giggling in his grave...
FR’s Own NeverTrumpers, should be flooding this thread in mere moments with their brilliance of what they would’ve done, and how Trump is wrong here.
They are saying he can move discretionary funding around somewhat without going through Congress. They also said they’ve identified more than 5.7 bil he wanted.
They are also saying the Dems might block cloture on the bill now. LOL
Id like to see him ignore the court in such a case. Let the court send its army to arrest him. F the Supreme Court
