CHICAGO — Chicago police have identified “persons of interest” in the alleged attack of “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett.
“These individuals are not yet suspects but were in area of concern and are being questioned,” Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted.
Important for media reporting: The people of interest are alleged to be in the area where a crime was reported. They are not considered suspects at this time as they are currently being questioned by detectives. We remain in communication with the alleged victim. pic.twitter.com/JuH1kYRTYV

Around 2 a.m. on Jan. 29, the 36-year-old actor said he was talking to his manager on the phone while walking in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood, when two masked men beat him, subjected him to racist and homophobic insults, threw an “unknown chemical substance” on him and put a thin rope around his neck before fleeing.
After the attack, Smollett returned to his apartment, and his manager called police from there about 40 minutes later, Guglielmi said. When officers arrived, the actor had cuts and scrapes on his face and the rope around his neck that he said had been put there by his assailant, he said. He says he left the rope and clothes on when police arrived “because I wanted them to see.”
Smollett later went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after police advised him to do so.
No arrests have been made. Police say they’ve not found surveillance video that shows the attack but that the investigation is ongoing.

This guys story is falling apart. Pretty soon, the Chicago Police investigating it will be accused of being Anti-Gay. You can almost bet your house on that.

I had not known the call to the police was 40 minutes after the “attack” and that JS had first phoned his manager. I guess they had to agree on a story to explain the actor’s scratched face.

I hate the fact the left gets away with hijacking the language. Homophobia has a specific meaning. We are not afraid of homosexuals.
The neighborhood in question is half black, half gay... The only people at risk of being hurt in that place would be anyone foolish enough to wear a MAGA hat.
If he was scratched up it’s more likely caused by a lover’s quarrel... or falling.
WGN has been cheerleading for Jussie since the fake story was first reported. WGN has turned into an ultra liberal Trump hating fake news outlet.
“Thin rope” - first time I’ve seen that adjective used in this story. Was it, in fact, STRING?
According to the cops it was a cord like that used as a ‘clothesline’....................

Smollett was careful to pick a location without any security cameras to stage his pretend assault. He probably planned it for a couple of weeks.
The police have videos of him strolling away from his apartment building and then videos of him with a rope around his neck strolling back to his apartment building and in the lobby of his apartment building. Without a confession (fat chance) or a video of him actually staging the assault, it will be difficult to conclusively prove that he is lying.
The Chicago police know that if they charge him with making a false report without airtight conclusive proof (and maybe even with), they will all be demonized nationwide as white racist homophobes. That is dangerous when you live in a democrat controlled socialist “utopia” like Chicago. There will be riots (any excuse for a looting party) and police officers will be attacked (again, any excuse).

TMZ: Police are questioning an actor who has appeared on Empire, a second man who was traveling with that man, and @JussieSmollett today. TMZ says “rideshare and/or taxi records” were used to ID suspect. We’ll now share this unconfirmed tip, which we received over a week ago:

MORE: Source states phone records provided by Smollett were a spreadsheet. He downloaded his phone activity into a spreadsheet and then deleted certain phone calls. “He did the [detectives’] job for them because then they only had to focus on the numbers he deleted.”

Yesterday it was reported that Smollett had turned in redacted cell phone records information to the police.
Essentially, the police already HAVE Smollett’s complete cell records. Subsequently, CPD looked at what Smollett deleted and it appears that information has given the police the two “suspects”.
Reports are that the 2 suspects were Smollett’s friends and this “attack” was all planned by Smollett.
