New York Governor: Florida Is Stealing Our Population

We’ve previously talked about the problems that New York State has in terms of hanging onto its population. People have been fleeing the state’s high taxes and oppressive liberal government for years now, dropping the state’s congressional representation by several members and putting the state through redistricting every census cycle. Rather than acknowledge what’s really the problem, however, Democratic leaders in the state government continually come up with new and interesting theories to blame these changes on. The latest is a real humdinger. Governor Andrew Cuomo came out this week and blamed the exodus on… Florida. (CBS Miami)
This week the Governor of New York blamed budget shortfalls on the state of Florida.
He said New Yorkers are fleeing to the sunshine state to save big time on taxes.
It all goes back to the tax reform passed by Congress. The changes increased the incentive to move to the sunshine state dramatically.
On Sunny Isles Beach, developer Edgardo Defortuna has a lot to smile about. His development Jade Signature, an ultra-luxury beachfront condominium building, is nearly sold out.
The developer in Florida they interviewed, Edgardo Defortuna, is a pretty happy guy. He owns a luxury condominium that’s opening up right on the beach and has sold all but seven of nearly 200 units before the doors even opened. In the past, Defortuna (who is a big name in Florida real estate development) received only a handful of calls per year from New Yorkers for the units that sell for up to $30M. Now he says he’s getting several calls per week.
The last two units were sold to New York CEOs from Wall Street and an investment banking firm. We recently looked at the impact of the new tax law and I noted that not many people would be affected by the deductions limits for state and local taxes (SALT). Only those raking in annual incomes well up into six figures and beyond would take a major hit. Well, these are the people who felt the bite, and they’re leaving the state.
It’s probably not going to do any good, but somebody should really ask Governor Cuomo if it’s really fair to “blame Florida” for the exodus of New Yorkers. If you tax people heavily enough while doing your level best to suppress their constitutional rights, they’ll eventually just leave. And if you’re bleeding out all of the top earners and replacing them with lower skilled labor or illegal immigrants, that’s not going to do much for your budget situation. If you want to blame somebody (besides yourself), try blaming Canada. That’s more fun and I’m sure a lot of people will agree with you.

Nope, Florida is allowing the productive folks to move there. You, New York are left with the progressive losers, illegal aliens, and dumb*ss politicians.
Live with it, and suck it up.

Better weather, lower taxes. Doesn’t seem like a fair fight.

I want to thank the state of Florida for being close enough in proximity to the state of New York to draw their emigrants.
Instead of those overly-agressive easterners, the state of Arizona gets all those nice folks from the Midwest.

State of Florida to New York:
Hey we’ll be MORE than happy to send a lot of ‘em back. The condition is that you must agree to not let them return and you must agree to stop sending us hypocritical leftists who vote for you then flee the consequences of your policies, then come here and try to repeat the pattern all over again.

Well just pass a law preventing any New Yorker from moving out of state. Problem solved and Florida will also be grateful.

The only reasons to stay in New York:
1) Because you're politically connected rich.
2) Because you're trapped by poverty.

Thousands of years ago Roman Emperor Hadrian acting to stop rapacious tax collectors said he wanted his sheep “shorn, not skinned”.
Leftists still haven’t learned that lesson.

Before Kalifornia Governor Gray Davis was recalled, he actually tried to collect taxes from a company that moved out of Kalifornia to next door Nevada. The business owner took it to court and the presiding judge quickly ruled in favor of the business. Yet another example of how and why Trump is so important. Judges, Judges, Judges.

When is this guy up for reelection? Trump Jr should run against him.

“Snowbirds” from NY have wintered in Florida for decades. Only now, many of them are choosing to retire there permanently as the Baby Boomer generation has largely reached that age... and for multiple other reasons, too... taxation, climate, cost of living, etc.

Not at all that complicated. You buy a cindo in a senior community in Bonita Springs. You keep your home in Great Neck. You register in Fla and never inform NY Bd of Elections. You request absentee ballot in Fl or you early vote. Then you return to NY for Election Day and vote at your polling place. Easy. I have lunch with a group of fellow retirees from NYC schools each month. The snow birds are always here for our November lunch. I dont have to wonder why.

Not only that, but if you look at the 2016 electoral map for NY, Hillary won only about 6 or 7 counties. The rest went for Trump.
I believe that it's time to start breaking up states and create newer states. I know it's unconstitutional to create a state from within a state, but these urban cities have too much influence on the rest of states, like Chicago for example. We should have 75 states within the Continental U.S., and let Alaska and Hawaii become sovereign nations.

I guess he’ll have to figure out a way to put in an “exit tax”, to have one last money-grab on them, on their way out.

While I was in the Navy, I was transferred from California to Massachusetts. To simplify my personal admin burden, I kept my official residence as California. The upshot of that was that since I was in the military but serving outside the state, California said I owed them no income tax. Every year, Taxachusetts sent me a nasty threatening letter demanding I pay their state income tax. I simply appended a copy of my CA zero dollar tax return to a copy of their letter in my return envelope. I will admit to openly smirking while I did so. Happy days, happy days. No, I never returned to the Left Coast.

The Democrat Party is dying internally with each passing day. Thousands, if not millions of African-Americans & American-Hispanics are switching over to the Republican Party to support Trump, and they will cast their votes in the 2020 POTUS election for POTUS, Donald J. Trump to be re-elected.
The Democrat “base” shrinks every day. The action, the growth , the jobs...good ones, high paying ones are in Texas & Florida. Democrat, New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo is adrift-at-sea. as he watches NY die because of him and his Democrat Liberals, socialists & communists.
Just like the American people/voters defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton by choosing Donald J, Trump to be POTUS, the state of New York will never prosper, grow or be the great state and city she once was until the Democrat Party is defeated and totally destroyed politically in New State and New York City....Case Closed!!!

“First, New York should mandate that any state pensions, funds, or former city and state employees MUST pay New York state income tax on their pensions, retirements, and plans. That should help hold onto their population!!! Save Florida from going Blue, More NY taxes is the answer........”
By my observation, this would cause FL to lose easily 25% of their LEOs who are there on the double-dip plan of a NY retirement @ 20 years, new job in FL LE to work up another retirement. Your proposed mandate makes perfect sense, especially since it would likely save FL from the blue hell that awaits it otherwise.
