Americans who continue to hold out hope that Leftist Democrats are going to compromise with POTUS Donald Trump and Republicans over border security legislation that includes funding adequate enough to construct the kind of physical fencing or walls necessary to thwart illegal immigration and drug smuggling are living in a fantasy world.

It’s not going to happen.

Never mind that once upon a time Democrats appeared to support border security when they voted for legislation that funded the construction of hundreds of miles of fencing and substantial barriers. That was then. The Democratic Party today is not the same as it was even just a few years ago. Today, it is openly anti-American, brazen in its disdain not just for the president but the legions of voters who put him in office.

This is all the more reason why President Trump should call it a national emergency and build the wall and be done with these clowns.

Agree completely. Republican cowards say it would set a bad precedent and in the future democrats would call a national emergency for frivolous purposes. Well, they are going to do that anyway!

President Trump should definitely call a national emergency and build the wall! And the heck with the clowns (including the cowardly republican clowns).

The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 forbids U.S. troops from being deployed on American soil for law enforcement.

Is repelling foreign invaders on an international border law enforcment?

Sounds like national defense to me but I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express...

It falls under Section 1076 of the John Warner Defense Authorization Act expanding the president’s authority to federalize the National Guard during certain emergencies and disasters. The president would be able to exercise such authority without a governor’s consent.

Specifically, the president would be allowed to employ the Armed Forces and the National Guard to restore public order in certain situations, namely in times of “natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident or other condition.”

Section 1076 was enacted in October 2006, as part of the Defense Authorization measure (Public Law 109-364) revised the Insurrection Act of 1807. The Insurrection Act empowered the president to use the U.S. military as a domestic police force when laws are not being enforced, or the rights of citizens are being denied due to insurrection, domestic violence or conspiracy. Section 1076 of the Defense Authorization Act says the National Guard units can be mobilized at any time by presidential order.

It’s just another grandstand play to appear to punish Trump. I feel since the governor is assisting the illegals in federal trespass and endangering the citizens, he should be arrested as an accessory.

"He can, under certain conditions. But he shouldn’t. It would set a bad precedence. The Guard is normally under state control, and that’s how it should be. This is an important check against tyranny from DC."

The precedent was set long ago by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Little Rock, Arkansas back in the 1950's. The governor had called up the Arkansas National Guard to block an attempt to integrate schools. The president federalized the Guard told them to "stand down". A president's authority surpasses a governor's.

POTUS needs to reassign BP from CA ports of entry to the smuggling areas. The back up into Mexico at the official border crossings will be tremendous if that happens.

the GOPe are all cowards and they are very happy for the open border and the delima that TRUMP is now in...hate this govt and the whole system of the senate and house and the lousy support “lack of” for the principles the “people” voted for in 2016!

San Fran Nan Pelosi is going to fund more border wall than Paul Ryan ever did. How pathetic is that?

Key phrase: “for law enforcement.”

But not for a declared “national emergency”, which we’ve been in for 40+ yrs.

I agree, but a “National Emergency” circumvents the Posse Comitatus Act, as it should.
